Over the years i have worked with a lot of guys that also had
"Side jobs" cutting grass ,, painting etc,, I'm am jealous of some of the handguns they have received as payment or partial payment ...I'm not saying they took advantage of anyone but if they get a "Good deal" by doing jobs for someone they deserve a good deal ..I know this is a S&W forum but one of those deals ,, a guy that use to come to the Ft Ritchie Commissary who drove for
Pepsi showed me an old Remington pump that he had got from a side job that had that real deep checkering on the foregrip,,,,,dang ,,I need to start me a side job ,,I'm a lousy painter , guess i could cut grass.

Once I did pay for a roof repair with 2 Revolvers.
The Gun Guy Roofer was once accused of Murder.
He was Accused by Deputy Sheriff ex Light Heavyweight Champion Bobby Foster.
This tall lanky roofer did get sideways with the deceased dude who was shot at home in bed.
Two diff guns, perpendicular in the back.
So who do you think had access to the house, bedroom, guns and was small enough to stand on the bed and shoot straight down?

I did repainting of apartments as a side/second job. That paid for 4 kids in Christian School. It also provided enough spare cash to be able to buy (sell and trade) hundreds of guns! I managed to hold on to 180+/- of them.

I declared it on my income tax every year, and my accountant made me pay the Social Security on that income. Now that I'm retired, I get a monthly government check about twice what my job alone would have generated!

I had gutted and started remodeling our upstairs bathroom. The next time I went to work I broke my right wrist and elbow. I had to have a couple of surgeries over about a year and a half to put me back together.
My friend, a neighbor came by with one of his sons, and with my son, finished up the bathroom. He wouldn't take any money. I knew he wanted a certain type rifle that I owned, so I gave him my rifle. I gave his son a decent .22 rifle.

I bought 4 pistols and 2 rifles with the money I earned from being tested for allergy drugs in the 90's. When I had the first allergy test done, my back needed extra spacing as the red was all running together. The group on the other side of the business paid attention.

It involved keeping a symptom diary. IIRC, the most I earned was $600 for a once a day drug and 3 visits to a clinic 1 mile from my house. That test ran 8 weeks, most were 4-6 weeks.

I teach a class in pipe fitting one day a week. It gives me over $1600 a month to spend on my guilty pleasures. I started it a bit over a month ago. I have already got an 38/44 outdoorsman, and a second model 455. My new 410 side by side shotgun shows up today and 250 rounds of ammo for it got her Monday.

I have a few HVAC parts left over from the apartments. I like looking at the broken ACs my neighbors have. Many service companies only replace R-22 units. (I save my remaining R-22 for myself) But I've found two units that only needed capacitors. Saving a couple grand for a year or two. If I have the part, I don't even charge them anything. Not a side job, but it has its rewards.
