Good afternoon and Merry Christmas everyone, I have an old S&W 3953 TSW and it’s missing the rail section. I’d love to get my hands on a spare rail if anyone knows where I could source one, or if you have one laying around. Thank you for your time.

This may sound silly, but is it one of the early ones without the rail?

No it came with the rail, however I came into possession of it after the rail was removed. Which is why i’m trying to source a replacement.

That is most unfortunate. I hope you can find one, but I've never seen one for sale anywhere.

You might try S&W, but even they might not have them any longer or it might be a gunsmith only part.

Part number for the "Accessory Mount" is 267210000
Part number for the rivet is 267510000

Good luck.

Are rails unique to pistols? Assuming a double stack pistol would have a wider frame and rail than a 3913TSW and a full size pistol (4006TSW/5906TSW) would have a longer rail than a compact pistol like the 3913TSW.
Curious as to whether original poster's pistol originally had rail? I have one that came from factory with rail holes plugged.

Good luck.

I haven't looked that far into it. I know that the rivets are the same, but that's about it.

If I think about it, I'll check this against other calibers. The dust cover dimensions between double and single stack guns should be the same, so the rails should be the same. Maybe.

He mentioned that the gun did have a rail, but it was removed before he acquired it.

If I can find some time, I'll post all of the part numbers and associated guns. That will take a bit of research.

They are. This question came up before and I confirmed my memory going through the 2013 retail parts list that was contributed here and I saved. If it’s not a sticky already it should be. Great reference.

There are three distinct accessory mounts with three different parts numbers. All were “restricted” from S&W when they were available.

You’d think they would turn up since many were removed and the holes got plugged, (or not.) I’ve never seen any for sale but did see a rail removed TSW for sale that actually had a NIP accessory mount and rivets with it.

unfortunately is was very common for police depts to authorize these guns as back up guns but were afraid there officers would put accessories on the gun so they removed the rails and threw them away, that's why you see so many with the rail removed

That's an interesting thought. Having worked for a government agency for decades, I wouldn't be surprised if those rails were tossed into a box and stuffed into the back space of a closet.

I was once assigned a spare vehicle for a day and in the trunk found a piece of equipment that we'd retired 10 years earlier. They were "all" traded in towards new equipment, but this one was never accounted for.

Not the only time stuff like that happened.

Of course eventually they will be thrown away or sent to some sort of surplus action. Then thrown away when no one bids on them.

Yeah, I believe this was a prior police department firearm many moons ago. Incidentally they removed the rail and likely tossed it. I just want to get my hands on a replacement.

still searching for the rail section if anyone has one to partner. thank you

When all else fails sometimes you have to go the custom route. Is this rail something uniquely Smith and Wesson? Or is it a tailored Pic rail? There are a number of places to get blank picatinny rail and make your own or have a shop do it while you are waiting to find a "real" smith and Wesson rail. Otherwise keep checking the usual sources and see what comes up and don't forget the big gun shows such as Tulsa for what you are looking for. Just don't get sidetracked at the big shows, stay on task.

The rail is specific to this firearm, wouldn’t go the custom route. I want factory original only.

Perhaps a post in the WTB section?
It took me ten years before I found one and another member here gave me the heads up on it. (Edit) I noticed you have already posted a WTB. . :)

Okay, just thought I would mention it. I have waited eons for certain parts, but in the interim made a custom part to fill my needs. Some parts just never seem to show up or when they do someone else jumps me on them. After a while time begins to work against me and I settle for what I can get or make while I wait out the real deal which sometimes never comes along.

Yeah I want factory original and I pray I find someone on here who has one for me.
