New Mexico, incompetence, graft and corruption is thy name.

In NM, think twice before calling 911 and go out of your way to avoid ANY contact with LE. Your life depends on it!

Here in CA; Cops who get fired for one reason or another go to NM if they want to continue there career of being a bad cop.

There's poor supervision*, poor training and poor performance. The first can allow the other two to start/exist. OTOH, budget and overall policy are handed down from the pols. Myth busters proved you actually can polish feces, but you have to start with the right material.

It's just one facet of LE, but I saw a number of cases where folks were sent to LE Firearms Instructor schools because the parent agency couldn't get them competent and hoped the instructor school could. I can still recall a few guys I devoutly hoped changed careers. Not necessarily due to shooting skills.

* Leadership is a term often thrown around. Leaders aren't the same as managers/supervisors.

True, but making decisions (with consequences) is something some folks do a lot to avoid.

Good decision-making under stress is essential. Too many agencies pay little attention to training this skill into officers.

I also have a beef with the lack of leadership training in police agencies.

Decision making. The same person fails to search person handcuffed. Twice. Decision making.

EX LEO gets killed because he didn't put down his gun. I wonder if he even heard the order?

Yes, he should have known to do so but still, did he hear the order?? Was it shouted one time and then the gunfire started? I think we will never know.

Sounds like a cluster*** similar to what occurred in Saratoga Springs NY about 2 years ago, out of state deputy, had been shot and returned fire w/ some gang members, local PD responded to the shots on foot from a side street and started screaming at the deputy (who had moved into a roadway to gain space from the attackers) to drop his gun; he looked at them and was immediately shot by them. He was hit a total of 5 times, between the gangsters and the cops.
He was arrested on a slew of charges, the gangsters followed his ambulance to a nearby city medical center where the local PD in that city chased them away. Eventually, some of them were charged with (only) 3rd degree assault.
Deputy was indicted, but luckily hired a competent attorney who had that indictment thrown out, The DA was still trying to get another indictment, however a new DA was elected, no futher action yet.
