I too have at 27-2, S/N N4479xx with a letter stating a ship date of 2-22-78.
I had a 28-2 that I purchased on 6-2-73 with a S/N N48844.

Let me get this right. You have a M27-2, shipped the same day as mine, and the first four digits of the SN are also the same as mine? Our guns are no more than 10 apart? How cool is that?

That's the revolver that I want to more than any other. I've never been moved to pay with the cash it takes to buy one, though. I have a solid 28 that, for now, is making me happy.

I shot it a fair amount in NRA Bullseye Pistol in the early 1980s. I also carried it hunting in what is now a well-loved Bianchi 5BHL basket weave holster form the same vintage as the gun. Fortunately I haven't dropped it... yet.
