The odds of being stopped if you don't drive like an idiot are very low. The odds of a search if you get stopped are also very low. Multiply the two (they don't get added), and you have a risk level that is hard to express, it is so small. They are also unlikely to be looking for gun; the N/S highways in Illinois (39/55/57) are major drug thoroughfares and that is out of what they seek.

I set the cruise at 65 and hide in the right lane. It's the only way I can get 10mpg. I'm sure we'll be fine.

I call my cruise control my "stay out of jail free card". On clear interstate, I set it on the speed limit or maybe 5 mph over and watch all the cars pass me.

I'm going to be driving to see my son in Las Vegas in a couple of months and have to pass through New Mexico, which no longer has reciprocity with Louisiana. Not liking that, but it's too far out of my way to detour around it.

We head to Florida every January for four months. I take five handguns and at least 700 rounds. I'm old so I stay within 10mph over the limit. I check www.handgunlaw.net before I go just to stay up on laws I may need to know. Since I'm a member of CCW-SAFE i also check their site. ccwsafe.com Handgun laws of America.
