Rusty Update **New Update Post 378**

Day one

Yesterday was day one of my infusion game plan. Including drive time it was a ten hour session. After being pumped with my pre-chemo meds I was then double bagged with an aggressive concoction. Afterwards they fitted me with a portable pump containing a different chemo solution housed in a cute belly pack. I will wear this at home and have it removed on Wednesday when it empties. I was not encumbered by it during sleep.

I slept like a brick for 11.5 hours only having to visit the loo once. I felt totally rested and comfortable with no trace of nausea.

I will forgo the medical menutia.

The regimen will be bi-monthly for at least two months including the belly pack. When the tumor at the head of the pancreas has shrunken enough after a CT scan they will then schedule me to have my innards rearranged with an ice cream scoop a la Mr. Whipple.

All my lab numbers are where they need to be and my OD and surgeon are confident that I am strong enough to weather this. At this typing I also feel good and it as if my body doesn't know it has been invaded by a squatter. I am onboard with this and as I mentioned earlier I like my odds.

As James Brown would say: "I feel good".

Lay on Macduff!

Also my session was made more pleasurable by my shiny new fire breathing Amazon Fire HD11 tablet. It is a true beast.

It was a gift. I mentioned last week to Fred that my 8 year old Fire HD10 was losing its ability to hold a charge and there were a few other glitches bubbling to the surface and Murphy's Law would dictate that it would die mid session leaving me to use my smartphone as my tiny portal to the ether given that these eyes being what they are.

My forum friend remedied that problem for me.

What a guy.

This is what he carried it into the hospital in.

None but the brave!

I'm very happy to hear that you are tolerating the chemo cocktail well and your numbers are good.
Honestly though, this scares the poop out of me. You are always in my thoughts and of course I'm hoping for the best.

Rusty, you got this brother! I am a member of the chemo infusion, followed by 48 hours of the portable pump, for cancer club. I’m guessing you have a port to receive your infusion? I’m sure concoctions are different for different cancers. Does your concoction affect how you can tolerate cold, both physically and internally like drinking cold beverages? I found using the loo challenging at times with the portable pump, but you’ll figure it out quickly. If there is any way I can help you, don’t hesitate to reach out to someone that’s been through it before.

I have a starboard port. I am having slight difficulty in swallowing and my vocal cords seem a little tighter. I also develop hiccups after I drink anything but thankfully they only last about ten minutes.

They infused me with a solution and gave me pills to raise my white blood cell count which causes me difficulty in breathing if I drink something really cold. They told me not to stick my hand in the fridge.

Small prices to pay to be amongst the living.

So I guess it's going to be warm beer for a while. Could be worse, like kale smoothies

Guinness kept at the proper temperature should be OK as far as temp goes, but that hiccup thing would drive me nuts.
Rusty, glad to hear things are going good and you seem to be feeling better. As far as the fanny pack goes, you wear it long enough, people aren't gonna notice when you switch to the one with the pistol.:D Besides, it's not like it doesn't blend with your style.:D
Seriously, glad to hear things are going as well as can be expected. Keep fighting, we got your back.

And Fred? Good on ya, Sir!

The anti-nausea drugs they pump you up with are amazing. After 8 infusions I lost almost no weight. The belly pack is a new one on me. I'm surprised they haven't attached a Neulsata Onpro (ecoli) for your WBC. They are a great improvement from 18 years ago.

Hang in there Rusty. This too will pass. I can feel it.
