Hand Cramps!

Doing much better this afternoon. Hydration shouldn't be an issue since I start off my mornings with a quart of flavored water. When I work, especially doing electrical panels, I expect and experience finger cramps but they are always gone the next day. Yesterday was sharpening blades on a gang mower using a portable grinder as they looked like the owner was cutting rock with them. Had reverse cramps last night - where my fingers stuck straight out and wouldn't close, then regular cramps this morning where the fingers curled up. And of course discomfort aka, pain. Worked them out under warm water and then spent time working on the piano to help loosen them up.

As noted, I am adding a magnesium and potassium supplement to my vitamin regime. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Those grinders will get you. I used to use pneumatic die grinders for precision grinding on titanium castings. I only did it for about 6-8 months, but it was killing my hands. One of my co-workers had been doing it for years, as had her husband. They had switched over to plastic drinkware as they would drop glasses when their hand would suddenly go gunnybag on them. After a long day, my throttle hand would go dead riding my bike on the way home. Ten-mile ride home and the last five were done feeling like I had a boxing glove on.
One thing they had us do is take small breaks throughout the day and gave us some exercises to do during the day. Mostly range of motion exercises for the hand and wrist. They seemed to help some, but it still sucked. I transferred as soon as possible.

ACV

I'm not sure if this wil work for hand cramps but apple cider vinegar , be sure it has the "mother". A couple of tablespoons full of that twice a day has reduced night time leg cramps for me. Almost 100%.
Certainly the other suggestions ,magnesium, staying hydrated etc are part of the equation for me.

When I was a die maker, we often worked 8 to 10 hours a day for 7 to 14 days straight with air powered hand grinders. When building hood dies, you could easily spend a month doing nothing but grinding. One grinder we often used was called a "Saxaphone". It was nearly 2 feet long and used a 1/2" air hose, but you could remove some metal in a hurry with one. It's no wonder I have problems with my hands in my old age. :(

I suffer from leg and foot cramps due to neuropathy pain. I have added 250 mg magnesium before going to bed, as the pain/cramps are worse at night. It has helped me. I hope things get better for you Tom.

Yesterday I attacked the replacement of the lavatory sink faucet in the camper van. The work area is very tight and the use of tools is very limited. By mid day I gave up and finished the job this morning. My hands were very unhappy and screwing together the supply lines and drain were difficult. My take on this is that projects like this, while certainly not technical, are best suited for someone else with “young hands”. 800 mg. Of ibuprofen and a good amount of Voltaren cream allowed me to sleep last night. I can forget about a career in watch repair!

Some exercise equipment for consideration. WARNING: may make it worse.

Some here will probably look at this a good thing, but today my hands are so bad, typing is a real problem. What are some remedies?

Same thing here after I've been working on my farm land. I don't get enough water and don't get a well balanced diet. My primary care physician recommended Liquid IV. It works when I remember to take it.

I remember it when I'm driving home and my hands start cramping. It's too late then.

I use a combination of Outback pain relief cream and Chinese hand exercise balls.
