Recommendations for a set of grips that keep the web of the hand high on the backstrap on a M&P R8?
With the rubber grips I feel the need to readjust my grip. I like finger grooves as it gives a means to index the grip each time it’s drawn.
However, I’d rather have the meat of my hand behind the N-frame, so I am open to other options.

I like pachmayr on my K frame over the Hogues that I had on it. The Hogues are shown on my avatar and they look nice and are good grips but the Pachmayr grips position my hand up on the revolver and the profile and dimensions of the grip feel so good in my hand.

Not a fan of the high hold so I am no help to you. My N frames do not recoil so much that I need a high hold. For what cartridge is that chambered?

I actually need to clarify my comment some. I actually am and always have been a fan of Hogue grips, I have quite a few of them. That's what I have on my 5 inch bbl Ruger GP100 and my Smith & Wesson model 617 and love them. It's just that I like the high hold on my 64-2 and the Pachmayrs give me that.

D&L Sports makes custom G-10 grips somewhat similar to the Trausch grips.

Well, I got the DLS PRG grips. They are expensive and I still had to take a Dremel tool to them to form a relief for my pinky finger. But, they fit my hand nice. I still need to shoot the R8 before I can give an endorsement, though.

*Note: in the picture you can see the area at bottom of grip that I sanded to allow bottom finger to have room in order to get a comfortable grip.

The OEM Hogues did not fit my hand.
Too low and unable to control the hammer,
without shifting my hand.
Gloves made it worse.
Compare the grips, between trigger guard and frontstrap,
with respect with their height to the trigger's bottom.
The whites are about 3/8"+ higher.
Hope that helps with a direction for getting stocks that
provide a higher hold.
My Coast Guard BIL said, do you always cock the hammer,
with your finger on the trigger? :D
Not a revolver guy, but he liked something like this,
or twins.

Back in the old days, I took Davis grips and ground/sanded the heck out of them. First to remove the finger grooves and then to radius them a bit more. Provided a very comfortable and very high grip on the backstrap. The rubber was perfect and they did not slip at all. Kind of like the new style S/W grips but those cover the backstrap.

That being said, the rounds I was shooting did not create much recoil. 148 W/C or 158 gr SWC at around 850 fps.

This was the main reason I switched from the Hogue rubber and factory wood grips. At least the PRGs index my hand in the same configuration and I don't need to adjust.

I like what you did with the grips. I may have to consider that for the other N frame I have. Thanks for sharing.
