The Best .22 Ever Made

I would take a High Standard Citation or Victor over a 41 any day.
Many great choices
But that said, I would have to go with the Hight Standard 102 or 103 series pistols

I have 3, 41's a 5.5" 7" and a 5" field barrel, All are super nice and very accurate I also have a few Ruger's
A Mark 2 and a 3 .....slab side and a Hunter with a fluted barrel Both very nice

But those HS are just so nice to shoot. The triggers on mine are unmatched. They are weighted just right for me, and the slant grip is perfect for my hand. I like the Military grip too but shoot the slant grip better.

The HS are finicky, and it takes patience to get them tuned to shoot right, but once they are set up, they are in my opinion the top of the line in target pistols, at least US made pistols. The older M 41's are very close in trigger and accuracy and they require much less work to keep them shooting properly.

I also have had to change recoil springs in all my HS as well, .....extractor springs and mag springs, and slide hold open springs, also
usually this will make them run quite well. Mag feed lip adjustment is critical to getting them to run right

In Rifle Catagory my vote goes to ...

Ruger 10/22

It can be had in so many different configurations ...
the plain basic carbine , whatever Tactical you desire to the Mannlicher and Take Down ... and don't forget all the Distributer Exclusive modles !

Something for everyone !

Handgun, any of my S&W revolvers, K 17, 18, M 48, and 22/32 Only have one semi auto, a M 41. Rifles, any of my Marlin 39a, followed by a Winchester 52b sporter

I do not know about the best, but I have a model 63, stainless from 1980 that I can shoot coke cans all day long, at 50 yards. Not shabby for a 4 inch tube.

As to accuracy, I also have one of the SW 22 mag M and P. Those thangs are spooky accurate. The new stuff made by computers and plastic and look like Matel toys are amazingly accurate.

I always liked those, I did at about 16 talk dad into loaning me some $$ for a used 552 Speedmaster BDL from a small archery shop.
My buddies and I were all into bow hunting, and found it there for 50$. Still have it

I think not. Mine broke and the repair wasn't worth it. Plus they suck with scopes. Try as I might I could never get the zero to hold for very long and I tried three different scopes. You have a few qualifications in your praise..."For an autoloading rifle..." and "Practical field accuracy...".

They're good, but the finest ever made? No.
If you are speaking of a Nylon 66, I sighted mine in on the weekend. At 30 yards it shot tight groups. My other two shoot great with Factory sights.

I wanted a 66 for my first real rifle. My parents weren't gun people but had friends that were. Mr McCready took me to the local gun store and when I showed him the Nylon 66 I wanted he steered me away from the semi auto in favor of a Remington Fieldmaster. Almost 60 years later I can still him say "you know when a round is in the chamber because you put it there". I still have that rifle. A couple of years ago I added a deluxe Speedmaster the only semi auto I own.
My favorite rimfires are a K22 hands down for a handgun and I have fallen for nice rimfire rifles and have 3 Cooper's, a Western Classic 22LR and two Custom Classic's a 22 Mag and a 17 HMR.

I am 82, have shot most and in competition for 50 years.....
Here's my take...
Favorite is not equated with FINEST.... Olympics have been won with a Pardini or a Hammerli, and my Pardini .22lr is capable of .5" groups at 50 yds....NOT ME, but the GUN. I would rate it #1, but I must admit my Marvel .22 upper for a 1911, with a guaranteed .4" barrel is likely as good... Neither guns ever, EVER, had a hiccup...I hate alibis and my 41s, although accurate, have always jammed.
The Hammerli 208S is another classic fine pistol...but mine is gone in favor of the Pardini.
Rifle, a different story...The Hammerli and Anshutz or really exquisite, but I loved my dad's Winchester 52B spotter..he won national matches with it and the quality in the 1950s was remarkable....
WE are talking factory guns, not custom guns....

I was never a fan of the Nylon 66 and I used to see them for sale all of the time in the 1980's at a Tennessee flea market. I always thought they were a Remington sales gimmick to seem space aged and modern, when I just thought they looked contrived and cheap.

The Ruger 10/22 is not worlds better, it is LEAPS and bounds worlds better than the Nylon 66....Dependable, great magazine set-up that you can easily upgrade to 30 round, simple to disassemble, far better price-point, scope mounting easier, etc.
