Model 19-3 Texas Ranger

Yes, that's definitely a 1973 Texas Ranger Commemorative set. S&W released 8,000 sets like those (matching s/n Model 19-3 and S&W bowie knife with sheath) in the wood presentation case. They also released another 2,000 that were just the TR Model 19-3 revolver (with about 50 that were engraved). The TR Model 19-3 is an exceptionally nice revolver with excellent fit and finish, nicely figured smooth target stocks, a special trimmed trigger guard, and special stampings. IMO it's probably one of the nicest Model 19s that S&W ever produced. I have TR6362, and it's one of the favorites of my modest collection. I'm not a commemorative collector so mine is an occasional shooter. The prices of these were pretty stagnant for many years, but recently the values have really skyrocketed. Enjoy!

To me, it’s a great commemorative package! When folks talk bad about commemorative guns, they definitely don’t know anything about this one. The quality is superb and if you can find one of the engraved pieces, there is none better.

I think that is an excellent representation of a Model 19 and a great revolver. Smith commemoratives are not always great but when they are great they rock!

Still regret selling my high condition shooter grade commemorative a couple of years ago. Revolver only, no box, knife etc but it had an amazing action and was tons of fun at the range (mostly fired 130gr fmj .38spl in it).

I have always heard that commemoratives are worth less than a similar non-commemorative gun. The two exceptions are the Texas Ranger 19-3 and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol 50th Anniversary Commemorative Model 29-2 in nickel. The NC gun is because it was the first Model 29 commemorative and it was the only gun where S&W used acid etching for the engraving. I have a 19-3 and had a NC SHP gun. I paid $1K for the 29 and sold it for $2500.
