To some extent it was a self limiting problem. More people willingly or unwittingly using Fentanyl = more dead users and ultimately the numbers start to drop.
My son is a police officer in a small city in NC. He used to administer Narcan several times a week. Now he rarely has to. Not a valid statistical sample, but a good indication that SOMETHING has changed. Politics precludes my expounding further.

The story I saw stated something similar. The primary interview subject—who runs a non-profit that supplies Narcan and addiction treatment services—stated that Fentanyl use is increasing.
I won’t draw any sweeping conclusions from a sample size of one, but it does make sense.
HIV deaths are way, way down even in third world countries. Effective medication widely distributed is overwhelming why.
Unfortunately with over 90% of fentanyl manufacturing moved to Canada from Mexico where less than 1% of cargo is searched pre coursers from China are available in amount larger than ever before. I'm concerned we will see a rise again perhaps after President Donald Trump's term when a perhaps weaker party is involved. I hate drugs and wish places like Canada cared more or had better resources to deal with this ongoing crisis not trying to debate here just my thoughts. Cheers
One of my nephews died way too young of an accidental Fentanyl over dose. Found dead in his home with some pills that he had no prescription for. I think the blame lies with the scum bag that created the open border that hopefully will be closed soon.
In all honestly, did the "scum bag" force the fentanyl down your nephew's throat? The problem--and fault--lies elsewhere. I'm sorry for your loss, but don't throw blame where it doesn't belong.

The problem is nobody is stopping fentanyl we don't need it in our country. It kills so many people who never intended to do it. You don't know his story thus for shouldn't judge. we all have moments of weakness. It is the fault of both the government and the American people for letting this crisis get out of hand. Without proper border security this will continue
Fentanyl deaths skyrocketed from 2016 to 2020 and have been dropping for the last 2 years. Anyone who thinks Trump gets credit for what has happened over the last few months is just cherry picking data. Drug deaths ebb and flow based on a wide variety of factors and not who is president.
It's simply fact that cartels have had to move to Canada because of the strengthened southern border/ ease of port access regardless of who did it our northern border currently remains weak I think administration needs to look further into the matter to keep numbers at bay

When Trump was elected, cartels moved massive amounts of drugs to storage locations N of the border. DEA has made several record level seizures of fentanyl throughout the US. Don’t discount the efforts of LE, along with the availability of narcan, in making and impact on OD deaths…
20,000+ lbs were confiscated at the southern border in FY24 and 40 lbs were confiscated at the northern border. What evidence supports that the Mexican cartels decided to move to Canada?
Of course I agree with that LE, BP,DEA,CIA all have done a part In those numbers no one man is making change, narcan use has lowered numbers of deaths not to be misconstrued with lower amounts of fentanyl there is no shortage in the US.
Unfortunately I'm not educated enough on the matter to give you the full run down, I've been reading about the subject on reddit I take everything with a grain of salt I'm young and use tic Tok occasionally (I know tic Tok bad) I just like seeing real people members of cartels, arms dealers in Iran/Pakistan/Afghanistan/ amounts of weaponry left behind,soldiers in Ukraine even the Russian sides videos for educational purpose all real people making a real time video. The cartel uses social media for propaganda they show off illegal activity with drugs,money,guns, current trend clothing etc. a YouTube video on the Shawn Ryan show with a woman named Katrina dives in on the topic as well, cartels relation with the hells Angels in Canada how 90% of operation have been moved once again have to take everything with a grain of salt but many sources imply.
