22 Mountain Gun

SS336, I agree. For that price I can find a nice K22 with the box, if I look hard enough. I think the 10 rounds and the stainless are upgrades, as well as the sights, but really for that price, I'll use my already owned 18. Or my Ruger MK IV. Or my M&P 22 Compact. Or my.... You get the idea. I have a bunch of nice .22 pistols already. To get that much out of me, show me something special. Otherwise, put some plain Hogue goodyears on it, a standard front sight and lower the price $2-300. JMHO.

I don't quite see the point of a 22 mountain gun. Especially at 1200$.
I'll stick with my model 34 4".

I’ll pass also. Too much money and I just got my 617 running properly after a trip back to the factory for lead spitting and difficult extraction. I don’t want to take a chance of having to go through that again. Additionally I’m not keen on the grips and would swap them out for Hogue overmolded mono’s.

I’ve been wanting to a stainless ten shot model 18 for some time. I’ll be ordering the 617MG this morning. Probably going to pass on the 610. I did buy the 696 and 629 MGs.

I might have been interested, but then I see the side profile... ugh I just can't. It doesn't look like a Smith & Wesson. If there is no more lock, then why continue with that weird-looking curve/contour at the rear of the frame? To me, they just look like some poor foreign copy of a Smith revolver.

I've been as happy as anyone to see the demise of the lock, but that graceful pre-lock curve appears to be gone. Maybe they will bring it back as the forging dies wear out?

I'll continue to enjoy my new Colt King Cobra 22lr until the price chills out on these. I don't think that will be anytime soon though.

100%
The 34 or 63, both 4", are some of my favorites.
I also have the 34 in a 2"; it is amazing how much more accuracy is possible (for me, at least) with the extra two inches.
(Insert "size does matter" joke here)

Im pretty sure a lot of that curvature you don't like is to do with the shape of the modern hammer, not just the lock parts. There was a short period of time in the late 90's where the 627's had the old style frame contour and the new non-"hammer nose" hammer. There was a visible gap between the front of the hammer and the arch of the frame when the hammer was in the down position. It looked pretty odd. They covered that up with the new modern frame contour even before the lock was introduce. Not saying the contouring has nothing to do with the lock, it does, but there was another issue it dealt with.

Well, regardless of the reason(s) for the new contour, or reason(s) for keeping it, I think it's hideous and will never purchase a Smith with it. Just my $.02. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
