Revolver Saturation

I do a regular patrol of the gun and pawn shops and I buy what I find that I just can not live without. ;) I like revolvers and I like pistols and rifles and shotguns, but other than that, it is just finding a deal that brings out my wallet. I rarely go searching for something in particular. The last two pistols that I bought were Astra .25 mouse guns, they were there and the price was right.
This. I am fairly mature by calendar standards and really have no needs. I still ply the shops from time to time to see what’s out there. I pretty much have zero interest in plastic long or short guns at this stage. The last gun that tripped my trigger was a Browning model 53 .32-20 but it was a consignment gun and my offer was not accepted. The gun is still there four years later lol. The last glass case treasure I found was a pretty darned pristine model 19-3 4”. It had zero wear anywhere. I only popped the side plate off because there was an occasional hitch in the single action thumb cocking. It got a good oiling inside as it was bone dry and looked like it always was. A quick light buff of the rebound slide and back together.

Anyways the right 19 was a grail gun. Now that I have it I have a few almost fits I’ll probably let go. The Python, a model 28 and a 64 will all likely go sometime this fall.

Is there any caliber that you are particular to?
Well, I like the 45acp, and I have 4 semi autos ( I don't want a revolver ), The 9mm because it is the most cost effective center fire, and I have 2 of them, and of course the 22LR. I have 3 revolvers, and 3 semi autos.

I also own one 357 sig, 2- 44 mags, and many 38 and 357 examples

My rifles have not been fired in 40 years, and I don't need more

I guess I’ll never figure out why someone doesn’t like J Frames. I’ve never liked the look of nickel (and I don’t own a single one, more for those of you that like them)
This reads extremely silly. You can't figure out why someone doesn't like a J-frame and in your next sentence you admit that you've never liked the look of nickel.

If you cannot see the futility of these two statements in a row then it's hard to help. Even still, I can tell you for sure that I don't like J-frames. I don't like the fit, I really dislike the geometry of them, it makes the double-action trigger pull different and FAR less enjoyable than K/L/N-frame guns. They are typically only 5-shots, and as a side bonus, they are visually very unappealing to me. If you cannot understand how I feel that way, imagine your favorite J-frame dripping in a gaudy nickel finish and maybe the lightbulb appears!

As for the OP, I read your opening post twice. What it seems you are asking for is a suggestion that maybe had not occurred. You absolutely love a great trigger and you aren't looking for another revolver.

Since you are a long time and very active participant on the S&W Forum, I think maybe a truly ELITE Smith & Wesson might spark a real interest for you and deliver for pure shooting joy and ownership pride.

S&W Model 52-2. It will not be low in cost and it's far better if you are a handloader. Worse yet, the magazines are stupidly priced and they only hold 5 rounds. (ha! like a silly J-frame!) But just get your hands on one of these and check it out, even if you aren't so easily convinced to drop the money on one. If you spot one, just -FEEL- the slide to frame fit and if you can, dry fire one of these pistols.

If you don't have any experience at all with a S&W Model 52, I think you could open up a whole new love affair with a handgun. You'll own a fantastic small machine that oozes quality and fitting. You'll have a piece of American history. You might take in a handgun with a trigger better than any semiautomatic pistol you own, it could be better than any semiauto trigger you've ever experienced. And accuracy just about as good as you can ask for from a handgun and outclassing every single "service/duty grade" pistol ever mass-produced and sold by the tens of thousands.

Maybe you need a downsized popgun just for giggle fun. I have been playing with a S&W 31-1 4” in .32 S&W Long and picked up a SP101 in .327 because H&R guns are hard to find. A 4” model 16 would be my current grail gun. I want H&R proper, not so much a .327 that will never see the big magnum loads.

I am into vintage, so I'm little help in your quest...but Me ?
I EDC a 2024 642PC - used to carry a 1982 Model 36
I just bought a 15-2 made in 1967 and I have an S prefix M&P (per Mod 10) from 1946.
Also, an M1917, a 5" 1928 Hand Ejector, and a1879 2nd Mod Russian.

next ? maybe a Victory (to go with my Colt Commando)

See ? no help to you at all

I have not bought a revolver in maybe close to a couple years. I seem to rationalize myself out of everything I look at. I don't like J frames or nickel guns. I have a varied selection of K and N frames including my birth year K38. So what's left? I have no desire to collect every variation of a specific model or caliber, and I am not into antiques.

As for semi autos, I don't like black plastic, and I don't really like semi models beyond the 1911 original style. Not into modded out stuff or 2011 double stack styles. I have a couple Colts, a couple Sigs and a couple Dan Wessons. The Dan Wesson's are by far the best. They are like a jeweled action, with a wonderful trigger.

I have also taken to a 5.5" and 7" Model 41 Smith and Wesson, and well as a Ruger MK4 Target with and upgraded Volquartsen trigger, so there is lots of rimfire shooting going on.

So the question is, where do I go from here? I do not see myself headed to Wilson Combat or Nighthawk and the likes, but I am super fussy about triggers especially because I flinch from hundreds of thousands of 12ga trap loads.

Suggestions?
You might want to try a Smith 52 or early model 17. Their triggers are like the action of a fine watch ! Another idea is a Colt Shooting Master.

A Belgium BHP, never carried,
the Sig P239 and the often carried M59, are our only 9mm guns.
The P239, low cap, but a great shooter.

I don't count my boy's Glocks, in 9mm/10mm. 😜

Colt makes an all stainless Officer size pistol. I think it's called the Defender.
With a trigger job, if necessary, that might be interesting.
I bought a stainless Ruger Officer/45, as Colt did not have any all steel guns available.
The Officer is carried and has a 3.6" barrel compared to the Colt's 3" barrel.
Will think about making the Ruger's trigger, like my old Series 70 GC, after a some more ammo fired.

Take a trip to the Nra Whittington Center in Raton New Mexico. They have a range for everything you have to shoot.
A wonderful resource that not enough members take advantage of. I stayed in the founders cabin and also in an RV spot for several weeks...as retired LE I had full access to all the ranges w/o any supervision...and the fees were very inexpensive...I urge Any NRA members to try and visit at least once...it is truly a treasure

I had a bright stainless Colt Officer's 45. 3.5 in bbl I believe. Had it all worked over by the Colt Custom Shop. Gave it to #2 son last year. I had not shot it in 35 years. It is a head turner

It's also open to the public! (Although I would urge all shooters to be NRA members.) Great place with very friendly and helpful people.

I, too, can’t think of anything I would want…until I find it. 😀 🇺🇸
The same with me and my S&W 44 Spl revolvers. Would have kinda liked to have one since the late 70's. Had a chance to pick up a blued M-26-6 and then a M-624 a few months back. Now looking for a Nickel. Didn't need any of them at all. I even shoot the same load in them that I do in my 44 Mags. Saw them, wanted them, got them.
