Tomorrow is my birthday. ;) I took my wife to a Dr. appointment this morning and heading for home we were withing a few blocks of one of my favorite gun shops, so she indulged me with a visit. The first thing that caught my eye was this one. When he told me he had the box and original paperwork, I just couldn't help myself. The revolver is as tight as a tick and only has the smallest amount of finish flaws. I probably overpaid, but I am easy to tempt on the day before the big day. ;)

If someone could help me with the date of production, I would appreciate it. Serial J-52800.

Sometimes you just have to gift yourself something you'd want! Congrats, I've never seen a Chiefs Special 3" in any gun store I've walked into. Good thing you stopped by!

Happy birthday, and congrats on snagging my favorite Chiefs Special -- 3" square butt.

The database lists one 3" barrel and square butt with a serial number relatively close to yours -- J53346. I own it, and it shipped on March 4, 1970.
Thank you for the date, Cowboy. I appreciate it.
Happy Birthday, I hope you enjoy the results on your special day.
Thank you! Tomorrow is also my 54th wedding anniversary. (yep, I got married on my birthday)

That warrants a Happy Birthday Song!

Congratulations and Happy Birthday! The S&W Model 36 with 3" barrel is one of my favorite guns. I own 5, 2 Blue, 2 Nickel and 1 Matt Blue (Model 36-6). My first handgun was a Model 36 2" which I traded for a Model 36-1 3" in the original box. I had to give the guy my 2" and $25 but I still only have $70 in the gun! Of course, the original purchase and trade was in the early 1970's but still a GREAT DEAL even 50+ years ago!

Would you have a clue as to what the current value of one like mine might be, with box and papers? I am trying to figure out if I overpaid at $500.00, not that it really matters, I wanted the thing. ;)

65-2×2 the heck with what you paid its your birthday ,it's a very nice revolver and you wanted it,congratulations and enjoy it end of story.
