I heard GB now issues a 1099, but then I heard they decided to not do that. Do they still do that?

I looked at their website and they now require seller to give GB access to a credit card. I don't want to give them access to my existing CC. What's the alternative?

What fees do they charge the seller?

Any advice is appreciated.

I have some S&W collectables but members here are so savvy re prices that I think it would be advantageous to let the market decide the price. I've had them so long I don't know what they're worth.

I can't help you with their fees.

The threshold for issuing 1099K's was recently changed back to the old levels ($20K and 200 transactions). You still need to declare any capital gains on your federal income tax forms.

Their fees are listed on their website. It is a base fee then a fee based on selling price. I find that they nickle and dime you when you sell, and I have sold some there. For the credit card i would get a preloaded one from Walgreens.

I agree with Greenwellg you should try this forum first.
Use GB to figure out your price modified of course by condition accessories and factoring in FFL fees as well as shipping. I used some well known sellers on GB in the past and there was always a chunk taken out versus the forum sales. My FFL charges $50 for transfer fees and shipping so I pocket more when I sold on this forum versus GB.
Plus you can list any make as we all have varied interests- they just come second to Smith & Wesson revolvers in my case!

Google Gunbroker fee calculator and it will take you to their calculator where you put find the cost for selling based on the category item you're selling and the final value it reaches.

As others have said, try to sell them here first. There is no charge and you can list any price you choose. If they don't sell, lower the price or sell somewhere else. The problem with signing up for GB and selling there is that you have no history of sales. Buyers generally reward those with many sales and high satisfaction levels. Without that you'll be fighting an uphill battle to get high bids. Good luck.

Prices seem to be down now, the forum is probably better with no fees. Maybe send some money to Lee for using the forum, this is a fantastic place. There are a lot of people down sizing their collections, unfortunately passing away and their guns hitting the market and the economy is terrible. Good luck, Larry

Truegunvalue.com is a good place to get ballpark pricing.
Selling on this forum first may be easier in the long run.

They nickel and dime buyers too not that that is an issue for the OP.

Something else to consider: with no sales history on GB, and if you don't take credit cards as payment, you will never get anywhere near the top prices that the well established sellers will. The difference could easily cover the consignment fees for a top GB seller...

Best bet is to try here on the forums, then consign with a top seller on GB if they don't sell here.

Might consider joining Worth Point for price comparisons....they not only show prices realized but have dates sold. Photos are gtg mostly but can be sketchy...then list here

Unless your gun is unique, you will have a hard time getting decent money on Gunbroker after the fees.
Plus Gunbroker has been purchased by an outfit that will squeeze every cent out of you that they can.
They used to be the first place I would look for a gun at, now they are the last.

I find listing guns on forums like this a waste of time, and sell mine at gunshows.

I used to buy and sell on GB. I quit doing that as I have cemented what I actually am intersted in. I did purchase a hard to find gun locally (3906 TSW) on GB for a good price. BUT with shipping and fees etc, I paid over $ 130 more than the bid price. GB no more . Sell here on the forum!

If you have no history on Gunbroker, no one will bid or purchase a gun from you. Period. With fraud being so prevalent, buyers won’t take the risk. When I shop on GB, I will not purchase from new sellers even if it’s the best deal in the world. I purchase on Rock Island Auctions and pay about 30% in fees, taxes, shipping, and misc. A $1000 purchase costs me $1300. On GB, the seller pays these fees. I purchase about 20 guns a month and love buying from forum members, as long as they are established members. Fraud is my #1 worry when I buy.

One thing to be aware of is the cost of shipping and FFL fee's. If you have a friendly FFL that will ship for you at a reasonable fee you are lucky, I have seen recently $100 per item fee's. Factor it all out and you will be lucky to get one sold and delivered for less than 15%. Look around your area and see if you have an auctioneer specializing i gun sales. The usual fee is around 15%, and they pay all shipping and FFL fee's. You may be better off.

You are much better off putting your own price on a gun and listing it on forum. Remember off auction site they may get more but after their percentage and fees you may actually come out with less. Check sites to see what your piece has been selling at and price yours accordingly. You get 100% of this on forum.

I am not sure where you live, but here where I live, there are three gun stores that use the Internet, Auctions. I can bring my guns to them. They will list them. They will advertise them. They will photograph them, and they will ship them, for that they get a fee, but they do all the work. They even mail me a check. You might look around for somebody like that.

I have some history. Years ago I sold BB Trout a 27-2 and he gave me a positive review. It's there. And I have maybe 2 dozen positive reviews as a buyer. But, no, I don't have a history such as might remove all doubt.
