Model 39

Hello, S&W Customer Service line (800) 331-0852 an actual person will tell you over the phone by your serial number for just about any S&W. Better than guessing.
For most revolvers made after 1980 and most semiautomatic pistols made after 1984, the low wage phone answering drone at S&W probably has a good result from the company computer.

For 39’s, 59’s, 52’s and 41’s, that same goof on the phone has less of a clue than probably 40 different active posters on the S&W Forum.

That’s fact. Here is another…

Outside of a $100 Historical Foundation letter request, there exists no source on this Earth that will courteously help you on a 39 serial number better than cougar015.

Try the S&W phone game challenge… call them three times over five days and report back with all the different guesses they have for a pistol shipped before they were born. Or for real fun, ask them about some esoteric model and listen for crickets when they have no idea what you’re asking about.

I once struck up a conversation with a traveling S&W field rep about the 1006 and the five other models in that series and he had no idea they’d ever existed. All news to him and he was wearing the company logo on his shirt and on the clock for the brand.

What a sweet gig, he was being paid to be at a gun store in nowhere, Ohio to stand by a table of Tupperware and learn about his company’s legacy products from an enthusiast. (Me.)
