After years living overseas, I'm back in the States now and looking to collect some Smith and Wessons. I don't if it is because I associate them with my 20's, or if it is because they are objectively the best, but I find the 3rd gen TSW/Tactical models with integral rails to be the peak of S&W gun design. The only thing I have seen from S&W since then that comes close to exciting me is the new full size M&P carry comp in 9mm. I would love to have the exact same in 10mm, because I can't stand the "goblin nose" look of the PC model.

So what TSW integral rail models are out there? I know of the 4006TSW stainless (CHP model) and 4556TSW stainless and 4556TSW melonite (WVSP model), and the 3913TSW and 3914TSW. Are there any others?

Not integral. But, nice gun.
Guess I misunderstood what "integral" means.

Always thought of it as an essential part to make a whole.

Thanks for the pic. Now I know better.

As a side note the rail was useless for us as we couldn't mount a light per policy.

Just made it hard to find a decent security holster for duty and much wasn't available for off duty.

The RCMP 5946 had the integral rail, but weren't a TSW model. The slide and the firing pin retainer were the original 5946 style, as were the slide to frame rails

I assume when you say Integral Rail, you are talking about rail as part of frame like the CHP 4006TSW you mention. I have never seen 3913TSW or 3914TSW with Integral Rails - only separate rails riveted on. My 3914TSW is the riveted on type but no rail - holes appear to have been plugged at factory. But I had never seen a 5946 in blue with Integral Rail. I would be interested in seeing any other "Integral Rail" models.

Per SKJOS spreadsheet:
5906TSW (Stainless) UBZ8569 Product Code 150383 reported as Integral Rail 2009
5946 (not TSW) (Melonite) BDX1826-1831 circa 2009?
4566TSW (Stainless) BDX, BEM. & FSD prefixes reported circa 2007?
4566TSW (Melonite) West Va State Police & West Va Public Service Comission 2011-2014
4006TSW (Stainless) California Highway Patrol CHPxxxx 2006-2007

When we were getting our last batch of .40 & .45 TSW's in the later 2000's, were told that the integral machined rails were available on any of the full-size models, since they were considered 'duty' guns, but not yet on compacts. Never heard if they did any of them on compacts. The smith for the CHP on the forum might be the best to ask, since they had 4013TSW's for their plainclothes officers. If anybody might've gotten the company to build compacts with integral rails, it might've been the CHP.

Yeah I call them integral rails, but I'm not sure if that is the right terminology. I've also seen "integrated rails" and "milled rails".

That is gorgeous. Definitely going on the bucket list.

Alright, that looks like the answer. So then there were only five models.

Time to get collecting...

They’re indeed rare birds. I have the 4006CHP and the both 4566’s. The 5906 ones are probably the rarest. I’ve only seen a video of a 5906 w/integral rail on YouTube being shot by Jerry Miculek

I think Integral Rails is the correct terminology as opposed to Attached Rails. My point is the 3913TSW, 3914TSW, 3953TSW, 4013TSW, etc are all Attached Rails as far as I can tell.

I much prefer the Integral Rails. I have the CHP 4006TSW, the melonite 4566TSW (both WVSP and WV PSC versions) but I doubt I will ever see the 5606TSW or the 5946 versions.

Good Hunting.
