Picked this up for $699 today, hope I wasn't fleeced. Few nicks on her, but locks up tight and doesn't appear to have been shot a lot. I already have a 4" Model 28 no dash, I figured it was time for a 6"! Long live the HP!

Maybe, but most likely it left the factory in 1956. HPs with nearby serial numbers for which I have a confirmed ship date did.

You found a nice early HP. Even with the post-1967 stocks you got an excellent deal.

Unfortunately somebody drilled a hole in the stocks, or is it factory? Does this significantly hurt the value? I didn't catch it from the online pics. Rookie mistake..

Great price for what appears to be a nice condition Mod 28. Drilled hole in the grips doesn't happen to line up for access to the strain screw does it? From the pic, it appears a bit high for that. Regardless, I would not sweat the grips.

Great 5 screw HP. The hammer spring strain screw is not meant as a trigger pull adjustment as whoever drilled the hole thought it is.

You did good! Although 4" are a little more popular and usually bring higher prices, your 6" is a nice one. I only have one first year 5-screw (4"), but I do have a couple of 6" Model 28-2s. The stocks are nice, too. Just be sure that the spring strain screw is screwed all the way in, and then ignore the hole. Enjoy!

If that hole bothers you, they make wood putty in many different colors. You can probably match the stocks.
