In 1971, while living in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, I was 22 and owned 3 long guns...30-06, 12 gauge, and a 22 Hornet. Decided I needed a .22 and my first handgun. Went to the local Coast-to-Coast hardware store in L'Anse and saw a new Model 17-3 that satisfied both "needs." As I was making $3.08 an hour and just married, I asked about time payments if I put half down. He said OK and "Take it and pay me when you get it." Those were different times! Working in the woods, it became my most used and carried (again, different times) firearm.
Side note: Soon after getting married, the new wife asked "Why do you need all those guns(3)?" I said "Same reason you need all those pots and pans...different tools for different jobs." Subject never came up again and 43 years later I still had the same wife and Model 17.
