Ill be taking it to the range tomorrow, I kind of want to put a red dot sight on it eventually so I was wonderin' what my options for drilling or tapping or if there is some other way to mount a dot on this?

Make sure it works first. My club had three and they were a constant headache. The takedown piece broke on all three and it took years to find replacements. Yes, years. I think they were made out of pot metal. Reliability was spotty, accuracy adequate. Of all the Smiths I've been associated with these were by far the worst. But they have a following. I don't understand it.

mine works fine, I put like 200 rounds or so through it and only got one failure to fire because I was shooting mostly federal automatch. I have no complaints about reliability and accuracy is pretty good so I dunno if you got lemons or are confusing this with another gun.

I also tend to run my guns wet so that may be a factor. the only issues I really had were the magazine spring being a bit tired and not locking back on empty but thats an ez fix.

Once upon a time a company, possibly "B Square", made a mount that replaced one grip panel.

AIM-Tech made the mount I mentioned above.

I have read that firing pins are no longer made or stocked by S&W. Hard to shoot a rimfire with no FP, IMO.

I suppose a machinist could make one if he had the broken one to measure?

Scarcity of parts would concern me on the 422/622 series.

Numrich has reproduction firing pins in stock now for $30.77. Availability comes and and goes.

Jack First makes them up in batches of 200. Only Model 41 and 61 parts are "catalogued" but a call or email will confirm stock. They are heat treated and a direct and perfect replacement. 10-12 yrs ago they were @ $38.00 so add to that cost now.

I wouldn't be intimidated about owning firearms that are no longer produced and or supported.

you can still pick up firing pins off ebay or numerich lol.

and you are talking to the guy who owns 2 Daewoos and an HK VP70, so scarcity of parts while it sucks, doesnt really bother me.

guns are meant to be shot, not collect dust in a safe.
