Do you have a dedicated "truck or trunk" gun that's kept in your car all the time or take along when going on car trips?
My first truck gun was a well used (and cheap) Glenfield model 60 that hid behind the seat along with a box of 40 gr. CCI Minimag all the time. It was taken out every few weeks to shoot it and clean it. I preferred this rifle over Ruger 10/22 as there was no magazine to loose and it held more ammo (I think it held 15 rounds over Ruger's 10 rounds).
Later I changed to Mossberg 500 in 12 Gauge plus a well used 4" model 10. Then there was the Winchester 94, SKS and Norinco AK. My choices were all well used low price guns.
In recent years it evolved to Mini-14 with factory folding stock and 20 round mags which was very compact package.
These days it's a 10" AR pistol with brace and a Glock 19 in a tennis racket bag.

This has been living off and on in my truck console.
Until it was brought to my attention, they are not that common.

Ruger P89 rides with me. Very reliable and won't let me down if I need it. So far only needed it once, to dispatch a buck that jumped out in front of my truck. All it did to my '03 F150 was break the plastic skirt beneath the front bumper and knock a headlight out of adjustment. Broke the legs of the deer. One shot put him out of his misery.

If a long trip is on the schedule the FPC gets to ride along.

I never keep a firearm in the car at all times, but when I'm out and about, there's always one with me. Here are a couple that have assumed the role of "truck gun" at one time or another. The first is a Ruger 1022 with a Timney trigger. It's been used to dispatch coyotes, skunks, raccoons, and foxes. The second is a Rossi '92 in .45 Colt. Both are perfect truck guns....short, reliable, accurate, and fun to shoot.

None, now that I live in town and rarely travel any distance out of town. My carry gun is always on my person. I'm not a big fan of leaving firearms in unoccupied vehicles, even though I have tethered lockable containers anchored to the front seat tracks, they really are only a deterrent to smash & grabs. Smash & grabs of vehicles in this area are at an epidemic level and there are a large number of guns being stolen from unoccupied vehicles. In OH, loaded or even loaded magazines for long guns or SBR's are prohibited in vehicles with the firearms and are not covered by your CHL or by LEOSA for those retired LEO's.

For a while I had the thought to find a 12G Winchester 1897 takedown shotgun to make the ultimate truck gun.
Cut the barrel down to 18" and mount a big fiber optic or tritium sight on the barrel and cut the stock down and mount a recoil pad. It would fit in my tennis racquet bag.

I have had different "truck guns" over the years, depending on my perceived needs.

When I was teaching high school I had an AR or a PS-90 (my classroom had an exterior door, and my vehicle was 10 feet away). Now that I've retired a Glock 26 has that duty.

I should probably toss one of my Mossberg 500s in the compartment under my rear seats, but removing it whenever I needed to go on a military installation would be a hassle.

I do, I live in a rural area and have never had anything stolen from my vehicles out here (I have twice had stuff stolen in the big cities, fortunately there weren't any guns in the cars there)

for decades I kept a Winchester 94 16" or a Marlin 336, also 16", 30-30 in the truck, for the last few years I've kept a #5 Enfield Jungle Carbine in my Mustang but I had to trade it off a few years back and my new car boot is too short for that so I revived a little Remington Model 141 I had cut to 16" - it is a .35 Remington and shoots great with a Redfield aperture sight. - need to take a Pic.

That is sort of hard to get to from inside the car and I keep a 5" 629 Classic in the back of the passenger seat.

I was the firearms instructor for our SO, also the Crisis Response Team Commander for a few years - so I always had level 3 body armor and a .223/5.56 carbine (which I kept only for response to a crowded environment because the .223 is a low penetration piece of gear) - for LE use outside I'd rather have a 30-30 or some .30 caliber rifle... which I always have.

Well, that endorses my decision to retire rather than move to OH for work.
I had 2 braced AR pistols (223 & 300 BO) and 2 9mm CZ Scorpions that DID fall under my CHL & LEOSA that were carried in custom concealment cases when I traveled out of town. However when everything involving braces hit the fan, I just went ahead and SBR'd all of them. I may put another braced AR pistol together now that the issue has been resolved. Just in case I have a need to hit the highway for an in state trip. So there are some workarounds.

I went ahead and SBRd one since I didn't trust the ATF on the brace thing back when the "enemy had control of the gates".

It has multiple uppers but I don't take it on the road, I'll take something "expendable".

I call it "Mr. Shorty"
