Questions about my 19-7

Hey, new to the forums and have some questions about a pawn shop find! I went in looking for some of my usual interests.... microtechs, hk, lmt, blah blah blah, etc.. I caught a glimpse of this s&w and it peaked my interest so I asked to take a look. Price tag was $800 and I just blurted out "I'll give you $450 cash". The guy said "$475 out the door and she's yours". Long story short, I was at the range having a blast less than an hour later. Basically just want to know how i did on it, what its worth, possibly what year it was made (i think 94'), and grip suggestions. It's a 19-7 with a 2.5 barrel, looks to be fired very little, great condition, but no box... just the revolver. Again, I paid $475 out the door. Any help is greatly appreciated... I already this is the beginning of a bad addiction.

Welcome to the S&W Forums. For $475, I think you did just fine. As for different grips, K-frame 357's can be a handful when shooting full power ammo, especially with short barrels. The rubber grips will help to absorb some of that recoil, but be sure to regularly remove them, clean them, and clean and oil or wax the areas of the revolver covered by the grips. Wood stocks can wick moisture away from the frame, rubber just holds moisture to the frame.

I appreciate the feedback. Already eyeing a 3 1/2 model 27... looks like i will dropping a lot more on it!

19-7 is the last version with no lock and forged internals and with the modern improvements made to the model over the years so yes, you got a good one and at an excellent price. Those are the original grips (Uncle Mikes, Spegel design) and they are going up in value as they are not produced anymore.

The grips that are on it felt good at the range. Just threw a box of speer 38spcl +p at it. And they are growing on me looks wise, but I feel like it needs a set of rosewood combats or something. Also need to get a nice holster.... this will probably be my daily carry throughout winter. I appreciate the info, man.

It's a real shame that Uncle Mikes is no longer allowed to produce these grips. I have a set on my 640-1 and they make that little J-frame far more comfortable to shoot.
