Highjacking a discussion

I would see nothing wrong with it. I have posted pics. in someone's thread and have had others post in mine. If this is not right I need to know also.

It's not hijacking at all. It's showing off! Which is always welcome on a gun forum.

I've often had members post their pics in my threads - it usually furthers the discussion in a positive way. No problem here.

+1

Why do you ask jimmyj?

Like with everything else, no matter what you do you will never make everyone happy. I do not see anything wrong with it and even welcome others pictures but I am an easy going guy and I do not go to the same lenghts that some do for thier pictures. While I certainly recognize and enjoy the really good photos I like seeing all the gun pictures. I will say if I offended anyone by posting pics on thier thread I'm sorry and I certainly did not intend it that way.

Posting pics of guns?! Yuck!

Kidding of course. That's one of the best parts of the forum for me... seeing other people's guns.

Hi:
Attempting to be correct:
Is it considered ok to post photos of your particular firearms on another Forum Member's Discussion about the same Models you have?
Thank you,
Jimmy

I find it completely rude!

I agree with BDGreen. It may not exactly be rude, but it can be bad form. You really want to avoid diverting the discussion from the OP's gun(s) to yours. You can always start your own thread, and if you are a nice guy, you may wait a couple of days and say something like "Joe Blow's thread inspired me to start this one."

Of course, if the thread has a title like "Show Me Your Model ___s" then it's off to the races.

I once started a thread about an N-Frame in well-used condition that I bought for $400. Naturally I had a photo in the thread. Someone else posted, complete with picture, about how they found a nicer one for less money. Rude? Probably not, and probably not intended that way, but it certainly took the wind out of my sails.

We don't always follow good form here. Its only polite to allow the OPs question or questions to be answered and for the thread to develop fully. Then anything is fair game. My guess is that if we were that prim and proper, we wouldn't be posting on a gun forum anyhow.

Very often we'll find a thread that is a few weeks old, and its taken a turn one direction or the other, ending up in a great discussion on another related subject. Its a shame people get their feelings hurt, but its going to happen. The former owner allowed pretty much free reign over the subjects. Its only on very rare occasions someone feels he has title and ownership to a discussion and throws a temper tantrum. For the most part, we ignore them.

Air Force,

please take you picture off. Next to you, I look like the pillsbury doughboy.

Seriously, your bicep looks swollen and irritated.

You don't have guns, you have 155mm recoiless rifles!

I think you can be prim and proper AND be a gun owner! :D

I go along with this part of Dick's post: once the OP's questions have been answered, or the thread has run its course, then sure, go ahead and take it in another direction.

There were a couple of members (who have since left the forum) who could always be counted on to make some tremendously-funny-off-the-wall-quip/pun (usually sexually oriented) about a thread someone started trying to have a serious discussion. That got old in a hurry, from my point of view. I mean, are we twelve years old? A little of that goes a loooong way. I know others thought differently, so I would usually just give up and leave the thread.

My previous post here wasn't serious at all in case there was some confusion.
I don't mind hijacking at all. If I post my gun and someone posts a "Here's mine, too" I don't care...I look at this as sort of a virtual gunshow anyway.
I read several forums and this one is the best, by far, regarding the members and content.
You guys are like a bunch of great neighbors that I don't have to live near :)

Since I'm not grown up enough to figure out how to post pictures (without help) your relatively safe? But I'll run a mini-jack on a thread in a heart beat as long as the guns being discussed are the same size, or action, or Hell even color? It's all in the interest of science after all!

 I didn't know.......
