What's with people trying to run up their post counts?

What's up with people posting 15 welcomes to new members? I mean it's nice to be friendly, but there's one member I see who must post 90% of their posts in the new member section.

I seriously think there are a few people trying to increase their posts by saying "welcome to the forum" in every single new member post. It seems strange when today I look in that section, and see that between all the posts, there are only three usernames in the replys......

Am I over reacting?

Yes.... but it still bugs me. It seems like people try to raise their "standing" without actually contributing much to the furum itself.

Maybe they are the "un official" welcoming committee..........somones gotta do it....;)

What difference does it really make? I am glad they are there welcoming the newbies. I was glad that people welcomed me when I got here. Who says that someone with a higher post count is actually contributing anything to the forum? Just look at me. And Caj. :D

Don't just look at the total, look at their registration date. Then divide to get the number of posts per year! :D See, I still waste bandwidth. And I still reply to this kind of stuff to boost my post count! :)

I always try to welcome new members. Didn't realize there was anything wrong with it. Is there some kind of prize when you get to a certain post count or something? I'd rather see someone's post count go up by welcoming new members than by posting complaints about it. I mean, I wouldn't exactly call that an important and valuable contribution to the forum either. Take a Midol and relax!

Now that's funny Misty!!!:D

So if I post in this thread, am I contributing or just running up my post count?

I was glad that people welcomed me when I got here.
It might sound stupid, but when I posted my thread in the New Members Introduction, I was glad that three or four folks said "Welcome to the Forum." I suppose I could have been the suspicious type and looked to see if the same ones say that to all the girls, but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Maybe we all want to become Senior Members.

I answered once before that I think it is a mistake to differentiate between a "member" and a "senior member", for the possible reason that some, not all, may inflate their post count to achieve senior status. I'm still in favor of one level of membership and doing away with any semblance of a caste society.

To Misty's point, I once frequented another forum (which I shall not advertise here by mentioning its name) in which I tried to be very outgoing, and welcome new members. I actually got a PM from the owner/admin of that forum that I was posting too much in the new members forum. I haven't been back.

To Forrester's point, I'm glad someone is welcoming the new members, I'm glad someone welcomed me - and - heaven forbid - I actually may post in the welcome to new members section once in a while myself.

Can't we all just get along?

;)

+3 Misty.
I need a Midol, if you got a spare. :D

To those who welcome new members, I sincerely appreciate that. It is a worthwhile endeavour, and I simply do not have time. Please keep it up.

Chad, chill out. Who cares what somebody's post count is? I've seen some great guns and true wisdom in posts by members with less than 10, and I've seen some- some- some- uh- uh, less than profound posts from the high numbers. Anybody that's been around a forum two days knows that post count is just that- post count. ;)

+4 to Misty.

I usually greet new members from Florida. I enjoyed seeing people greet me, and have never paid much attention to post count. I like to interact with other people, and find it too tedious to judge others.
