Do ya gotta have a matching belt for your nice tooled holster?
One of our forum members made a nice Three Persons tooled leather holster for my J frame. Is a matching color untooled belt in bad taste? Dang, the belts are expensive too!

The way I figure is that if you've got your regular carry rig then the belt doesn't really matter but If you're showin' off a nice gun in a hand tooled leather holster then a matching belt's just part of the package.

I don't think you need a tooled belt to go with the holster. Sure, they can compliment each other and look great but to me a great looking holster can stand on it's own.
I will say the one feralmerril shows is outstanding together. Too bad about the shrinkage.

(C'mon guys, give the guy a break! You know what he needs to hear!)

RonJ, yes! Of course! It is absolutely essential that if one has a tooled holster one MUST have a matching tooled belt. Got it? Otherwise you are just a pale imitation of a manly man. Sadly...

Now, after ya get the tooled belt, c'mon back and ask us about whether you need a reall cool buckle or not. We'll be here for ya, bro!:)

Yep...and many of the buckles cost more than the belt and holster. Really!! Just check out Les Vogt's buckles....but they sure look nice.:) Just what you need for a nice barbecue rig.

There is something to be said for matching rigs.

While it does look nice, the problem with the belt is it seldom stays the same size. It either shrinks or stretches (I had both happen - amazingly the same thing happens with pants).

If I drop 150 bucks on a carved holster, five years from now when my waistline is three inches bigger around, that holster is still gonna fit that gun. That carved belt I paid 200 for - it don't fit no more.

Lobo, I can see we need to do some business! On the rig I showed I had alphonso of hollywood make it around 1971. Mine is the ranger belt. The ranger design is a two piece belt, a narrower length sewed on towards the front that you cinch up with. The good thing about that besides looking sexy is when you fatten up its possible to restich it forward for another 3 or so inchs. Alas, I already have done that and its still far too short!
Back to the OP, yes, I definetly belive a matching belt and holster is required! I do have several gun belts to hold my many holsters but outside of my old black duty belt and holster none really match my holsters with the exception of the one that doesnt fit. I really havent been to many BBQs anyway.
Lobo, I really like the way you have your belt tapered at the front. With my other belts, especialy the ranger style, I bet there is close to 3/4"s of various layers of leather in the front! I have bought a new one about two years ago I have yet to really wear as it is so thick and stiff plus I have maybe only one pair of pants with loops big enough for the belt. I do have the old black keepers that doesnt match the mahogany belt. I have to wear suspenders all the time now. I have some odd suspenders I use. Several types. You fat guys with flat butts might try these. (Normal guys like us.)

I bought a nice floral tooled holster from El Paso a little over a year ago when they had a 20% off sale. Great holster. I just wish I had ordered a belt at the same time. I am waiting for a sale again. :)

Mine is very much like Lobos first pic. Same color too. That belt would be perfect! :)
