I just finished a leather rifle sling for a client and I'm having troubles keeping my hands off of it. He wanted it unfinished, no tooling, unbeveled and unburnished edges, undyed, no topcoat, nothing. I'm gonna have to make one for myself so I can get the satisfaction of giving it a proper finish.
I'm just using my shotgun to model it. I might poke some more holes in it.

nice work man, i agree it would benefit from some more finishing, but if that is what your client ordered its perfect right?
if you made it for me id want it darker to match the stock and id find the perfect length and press form the strap over night so the loop was flat. and definitely burnish the edges so my neck doesnt have to .
how do you like your coachgun? i have a stoeger 12 thats all kinds of fun

I don't blame you snubbyfan, Its not really finished. But its what your client wanted, maybe he was trying to be cheap do you charge less when you don't have to do all the detail work.

So the bigger question is: Can you make a 3" belt to hold up my tool pouches? Something for us old fat guys? I can even send ya the buckle off the old one that must have shrunk.

Believe me, I know how frustrating it can be when a client wants a job half done. Infuriating, I think, fits the discription.
Only cure is to dig in, build another the best you can. It'll keep you from stayin hot at the man who wants the job half done. And you show your standards.
By the way, I have exactly the same doorknobs in my house!(my grandfather built the joint in '47)

Nice-A lot of the fun is finishing something out. A nice simple sling is a joy to shoot with it.

Snubbyfan, So what's the point of the thread bro? You made a leather strap with holes in it, okay I get that???
Read some of the other posts and you just might be able to figure out what the point is.

It's a 20 gauge and it's a lot of fun to shoot.

Costs the same either way. I just cover costs and a little more for a modest profit.

Right now I don't have a hunk of leather long enough for a fat mans belt but I should be making enough of a profit soon to get a 9 ounce side or double shoulder soon.

Our house was built in '49. Must have been the style then.
I'm gettin' ready to start pounding on a hunk of leather for a handmade wallet for another client. Should be able to get it out of my system.

Snubbyfan,

I feel yer pain........A job half finished.....

Ought to cost that customer double time & a half!!! ;):D

Dave
Good point, it's like lookin' at a blank canvas just beggin' for some kind of adonrnment.

He could have bought that from Cheaper than Dirt!
The client checked with other vendors, my price is less, it's exactly what he wanted and he's right here in town.
We have most everything here from civil war to fur trade era reenactors, hunters, collectors and just plain gun totin' hillbillies. If somebody needs a custom leather something around here, I'm usually the one makin' it.

I have a "snubbyfan" holster for my snubby. Fitted, gun fits well!

snubbyfan: I have a Marlin camp 9.

Is there some way to build a magazine pouch for the buttstock? M1 Carbines have them. How about leather with pouches, tied with leather? Some how, 4 mags and won't slip off.

Yes I do, Molded retention, thumb break, front pocket and backpocket. I have molds for a J frame snubby and a 1911, anything else and I'd need the gun.

Ya mean something like this?
Only thing is I'd need the stock and mags to fit it.

Thanks for answer. I'm looking for a IWB for a Colt D.S. I guess I'll settle for what I have for awhile longer.

Stopped taking customer orders this year on my leatherwork. Best thing for the sake of sanity. Just make one of, these days.

Back to enjoying what I do....

Well, if you ever get enough to make a 3" wide 48" belt, let me know. I don't like what's out there on the market right now.
