Default Holster for S&W 38/49/649 Hammerless

I'm looking for a pancake style OWB holster with a retention strap for a S&W 38/49/649 hammerless. Any suggestions?

How about Bianchi's "Lightning"?
Yes, I know it's not a pancake...

I actually have a Bianchi Lightening. Nice holster, but a pancake hugs my body much better. Somebody must offer one?

Your difficulty will be finding a pancake with the strap that goes behind the
trigger guard instead of over the hammer. Your revolvers have concealed
hammers.
You probably should be looking for a custom maker who would
try to make what you want.

Galco also makes this design for J frames. A retention strap is not necessary, it is very secure.

Buy a Galco model SOB122. I've used one for years and never had problems with it. You can adjust the tension to however tight you want it.

If I remember correctly Galco or their forerunner offered what you are describing. You might keep an eye open for one on an online auction site. You also might contact one of the custom makers like Purdy Gear or Barranti to see if they could fix you up.

A few general comments, for what they may be worth:

1. The Centennial and Bodyguard series J-frame revolvers with internal or shrouded hammers came into being because of demand for small revolvers that could be carried in a pocket or purse and drawn readily without a hammer spur to snag on anything.

2. The majority of revolver holsters with retention straps rely upon the exposed hammer frame design for the retention device to function as intended. Profiles of the shrouded hammer and internal hammer frames simply do not function with most thumb-break or over-hammer retention straps.

3. The simplest method of providing reasonable security for a holstered revolver of this type is a retention strap over the rear of the trigger guard, and this is practical only when the revolver has not been fitted with oversized grips that fill much of the space behind the trigger guard (as so many are provided by the factory, or with after-market grips).

This discussion may largely be about attempting to force a piece of equipment designed for specific purposes to perform in ways that were not intended.

Thank you for your thoughts Mark. I have one of your Enhanced Pancake holsters for my model 37/60 and I love it. I'll give you a call and perhaps we could discuss having a holster made for the hammerless models? I really like your products and highly recommend them.

I hope you will call Mark, he is the current owner of Lobo Gun Leather. I'm the old guy who started the company about 49 years ago and retired in 2015 so the Fedders family could take over. Just throwing my $0.02 worth out there for consideration from my retirement chair!
Best regards!
