I picked this up right before the big snow storm and waddyaknow, it helped me through it.

Actually, the vodka is so smooth, it's easy to drink it straight and at room temperature. It's brought to us by Dan Akroyd, who has a very entertaining website about it.

And of course, the bottle is really cool!

When I drank, vodka was my choise. Never did like it straight. Couldn't tell hardly any difference in brand names. Vodka never gave me a hang-over. That is a cool bottle....never seen one.

I've seen the Akroyd promo vid. and I just saw a bottle at the State Store last week. YIKES:eek: @ $58 or something in that range. Bought a 1.75 Lt. of Fris on special for 19.99.

I'd like to try it and the bottle is cool but unemployment has it's limitations.:(

Must be pricey. I was an Absolut fan for years but recently have been buying Grey Goose which is about the smoothest vodka I have ever drank.

I'll have to agree with your verdict on Grey Goose, but I still prefer whiskey, specifically Jameson's or Evan Williams (which a wise-mouthed faux price-snob friend refers to as Sherwin Williams). In a side-by-side test, I chose EW over JD.

De gustibus non disputandum est. That's Latin for "Don't spit on the Goose."

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with Evan Williams. Old Forester, on the other hand, is another story........

I generally stick with Smirnoff. It always places in the top three in competitions and large scale blind taste tests. At $13ish a bottle, it is hard to ask for more.

That bottle is seriously cool though.

Gentlemen and ladies,

You might consider

Chopin

or

Belvedere

Both produced in Poland.

Too pricey for my tastes.

I like Sobieski, grain, for about 10 bucks a liter and Monopolova, potato, for about 12 bucks a liter.

Both score very well in the Beverage Institute tastings as well as my own.

If I have to buy a vodka label to impress it's Chopin.

I tried it, thought it was a good high quality vodka. Went back to my standard.....Stoly. Kept the bottle though, looks good sitting in my bar. I find that many of the high end vodkas are "too" smooth, no flavor at all, IMO. Guess that's why there's so many different varieties. My wife's brand of choice is Absolut, which I don't care for at all.

It's a pain in the rear to find these days, but there's an Estonian brand of vodka that still uses an unaltered original recipe dating back a few hundred years. Absolutely excellent and modestly priced.

TÜRI, yup excellent stuff.

Though I usually just drink Glennfiddich. A nice 15 year isn't horribly priced and just slides down your throat.

Being nearly exclusively, a Vodka Martini drinker, in addition to being so cheap I squeak, I buy this stuff. And have for about the last 3 years. It's at least as good as Absolut or SKYE IMHO, though not up to the quality of Grey Goose. As comic Ron White says about the Scotch he drinks this is the Vodka "for those who'll die penniless"...but happy!
Great Vodka - Platinum 7X

+1 on the Platinum, good flavor. Best vodka I've ever tasted is Magadanskaya "Maggy" bottled in Magadan, Russia and distilled from potatoes and grain. It's rather expensive, the kind of liquor you would savor on a special occasion.

Isn't the point of vodka to be completely void of flavor and odor? "neutral spirits, so distilled, or so treated after distillation with charcoal or other materials, as to be without distinctive character, aroma, taste or color."

If I am going to pay more for something to taste like nothing, I would rather pick up one of those crystal skull vodka bottles than the goose. That's why I am with you and stick with the stoly and smirnoffs of the world.

I'm a Ketel One fan, myself. Of course, there are some pretty good jars of stuff produced locally in east Tennessee (usually delivered in a brown paper sack)!

Barb, I bought one just because I liked the bottle. I don't think they made a lot of them. The guy at the liquor store told me they only got a few and probably wouldn't get any more. Mine is still full. I prefer bourbon or sourmash and just happen to be enjoying one now as I watch the snow and sleet fall on south Mississippi. It's not sticking yet but that's supposed to change later tonight. Try the following vodka drink.

13 Screaming Lemons: Pour a bottle of vodka into a pitcher. (no more than a quart) Cut 12 lemons into slices and throw them in there. Squeeze the juice out of the 13th lemon and pour it in. Pour in a 8 ounce bottle of marachino cherries juice and all. Add 24 ounces of 7 UP or similar soda. Stir it up and serve over ice. Enjoy, but not by yourself. This is mostly a chick drink but I will drink it if necessary.
