Might be my last Gun Show

Gunshows need our support.

WELL,WELL,WELL......Y'all want a little cheese to go with your whine.I'm glad y'all ain't going to gunshows no more. That leaves more good deals for me.I never have been to a show and not seen at least one good deal on something,I may have not bought it but there was a good buy to be had.For instance, I went to the show in Dothan ALA. this last weekend.Didn't buy a gun because I didn't see one that I needed for my collection. What I did buy was a pair of Victory grips in VG+ condition for $15.00,a Tyler T grip for $10.00 and a nice "Federal Man" holster for a 4" K frame,$10.00 .Anytime I can buy something for half price or less I'm happy.Don't be so quick to give up on your quest to find what you want at gunshows. You don't ever know when you'll find that once in a life time super deal.I'm always looking,I'm still hungry, that's why I go to every gunshow, fleamarket,or yardsale I can.If you give up looking why do you even have a collection anymore? Hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings, this is just my opinion on the subject.

Have a good time at the show.

P.S. Don't forget to wear your Kevlar....

I know the shows have changed quite a bit,but you never know what you will find.I look for parts, watches, gold and silver and what not. I have bought tons of gun grips on the cheap so I will continue to go. Its all on how you look. My buddies are the type to look at new guns and waste valuable gun time, but not me! I look like a pinball bouncing around the show! Yeah I get tired of the crazy prices, but there are deals to be found.

Well, Well, and Well. I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum. 45 years of gun buying, trading, and selling has left me with an upstairs bedroom full of only gun related stuff. 3 or 4 times the holsters that I have guns. Parts for 1911's I'll never be able to sell. Innumerable knives folding and sheath. All this resulting from "looking around for deals" at shows for decades. I cannot resist this crap. I've got a basement full of fleamarket handtools. So when I go to a show anymore I walk in looking for specifics. I usually time it. An hour and out.

well at least 'Combat' and 'Jcmack, make about the most sense, the shows are what YOU make 'em, we see the same guys who complain be the first to NOT want to "check their guns ,make 'em safe.." at the door, then complain and fret about prices and relate how little they paid back in 1956 for this or for that........you see MORE at most gun shows than at any given shop or store ( no NOT ALL gun shows, there are many that have the gloves and beef jerky, but the promoters are trying to sell tables, complain/comment to them).....if the 'dealers' had it so good at their shops (stores) why are they even bothering to go set up at the show????
I liked it better years ago, when MORE Mom & Pop collectors ,with one or two tables attended the shows, and NOT all the dealers with 8 to 10 tables of the 'same' stuff, show after show, but we still see them around here, so must be something keeps 'em coming, and yes of course, safety IS first & utmost, at ALL times and again, it's some of the same folks who 'complain', who act the MOST dangerous and reckless, cause "they'r e the experts....." been doing it for the LONGEST time, like they did in the "old days".......
so yes, if you don't like it, stay home...that much MORE for us, and maybe we can still "haggle & get a deal", at least "try"...thats the fun of going...............and for the so called 'AD's ?? throw 'em out, put em up on charges, and prosecute them..........sue the crap outta them......

I had something happen at the last gun show I attended that really got me.

I'm standing in front of a rather crowded table, discussing a particular gun with the table owner, and this fat guy about 50-60 years old comes up to my right rear and actually pushes me aside to the left; then starts to view the guns on the table.

My reaction was to exclaim "Excuse ME!" to this Neanderthal, whereupon he muttered a not-very-understandable (or acceptable) excuse/apology. And at that, he still muscled in.

You know, if I can't see the guns on a table, I WAIT until the people in front of the table move on and create an opening. I don't think my need to view the table outweighs anyone else's right to stand in front of the table, for as long as they want and until they choose to move on.

This is the first time I've ever seen such behavior from anyone at a gun show, but sure hope it will be the last. I have a long fuse by nature, but this instance sure shortened it. Am I wrong to be PO'd about this cretin's behavior?

John

John, how about the guys who park right in front of the tables and talk about everything else but what's on the tables?
Excuse me, can I get in there to see what the feller's sellin'?

All, and I mean all of the hills and hollers guys that come to the show are the most polite. Guys that look like they have the hardest bark on em allways "scuuze me" or "sorry" when they bump you that are the most polite. The new breed of 50ish boat shoed wind breakered fools are the ignorant ones.

The safety factor at the gun shows, along with the same safety concerns at the public ranges, and the never ending stupid anti gun legislation, has been playing on my mind for a while now and almost has me convinced to unload it all and focus on my fly fishing or some other quiet, peaceful hobby. Hard decision to make, I love guns, shooting, and reloading but sometimes wonder if all the risks and hassles are worth it. It took a long time to get this far in life and seems stupid to risk it to those morons who should never have been allowed to put a firearm in their hands.

I know how you feel brother! The good buys are fewer and farther apart, but I sort of look at it like fishing now. When I do find that certain pistol, its like that one great catch on the Long Rod every so often.

Not wrong at all....

This kind of behavior is what you see in a child that was never taught proper manners. The sad thing is that the poor manners and crude behavior usually carries on into adulthood. ~ This "cretin" that shoved you must be one of those kids....

I usually go to 3 or four shows a year. Have yet to buy any guns but I've been able to find a few needed things at very reasonable prices. Bought a Lyman #57 receiver sight for $45.00 a few years back and found an original receiver sight for my Sako for half that price. I have yet to see anything interesting in the way of a good deal on a S&W, but it may be due to the fact that I normally go on the last day of the show.
I usually have a short list of things to look for when I go and have learned a thing or two from vendors and other show attendees. Gun shows are like any other busy event: you'll have cads and gents, cheats and honest Joes. It's better to have a show to go to than no show at all.

However, I do have two complaints:
1. I'm tired of seeing Camo anything!
2. The clicking and buzzing of those little self defense tazar units drove me nuts at the last York show I attended. Of course with me it's more like a short putt than a drive but it was as bad as the horns they've been tooting all during the soccor wold cup in South Africa.

One school of thought: Go as soon as the show opens, motivated sellers wanting to go home with something "different."
Other SOT; Go a couple hours before closing as sellers are motivated to offload rather than pack out.
I find both yield about the same results and luck (as well as cash) is the key to outcomes. Joe

Amen, dant! Gun shows are still the best place to find the good stuff and a helluva lot more fun than searching the internet. I've been scrounging gun shows for more years than I care to count, and don't find them to be nearly as unpleasant as many here have described. Society in general, is not as friendly and polite as it was 50 years ago and, thankfully, the majority of gun show folks still lack the rude and crude behaviour found at other events. Because of politics, negative media, and insurance problems, too many of our gun shows are struggling to stay alive, so don't let a few jerks keep you from enjoying the good stuff.

pharmer; The folks involved apparently a regular "private sale" table in the right corner as you go into the main room. One guy was clearing a .25 and shot his table pard in the leg. Joe[/QUOTE said:
Well Joe,
You know the ol' sayin',"I'd rather be shot in the leg by a friend, than by some damn stranger!"

I wouldn't let a few too many folks, an unintentional discharge w/a little blood splatter
and high prices keep me from havin' myself a really good time.

But then again, that's just me.

Su Amigo,
Dave

Most of the people at the shows, gun shops and pawn shops look at the price of what a "new one" would cost and base their price off that, which is stupid. If you got no box, no papers and it has been used...find a blue book or start dealing.
On the upside some are so ignorant you can get a good deal. One dealer had a tag that read "Model 24, altered $500". It was a Horton 3" and my buddy talked him down to $425, and since the guy had only done no research, he probably thought he was the one coming off good.
If you want a good deal at a gunshow, stand at the front door and "pinhook" the guys walking in with one or two guns to sell. You get a good deal, and it really pisses the dealers off.

From today's Orlando fishwrap:

Amy L. Edwards, Orlando Sentinel

os-florida-gun-show-shooting-20100706

Two vendors at the Florida Gun Show were shot over the weekend by another vendor, Orlando police reported today.

Neither of the vendors were seriously hurt, and neither were struck directly by the bullet. Their names were not immediately publicly released.

According to the incident report, an Orlando police officer who was working off-duty at the gun show Saturday heard a gunshot about 100 feet from where he was walking about 1:40 p.m..

He then saw two men bleeding, the report said.

A third man, who was working with the two other men, spontaneously said he pulled the trigger of a firearm.

The two wounded men were taken to area hospitals to be treated for lacerations, the report said.

No other details were immediately available.

Sorry for earlier misinformation. Joe

I have never been to a gun show in my life. I would like to attend one someday though. The one I want to go to is the one all of you gun show veterans remember so fondly....not crowded, free admission and parking and lots of bargains. Ammo for $5 a box, pristine stainless 629's for $300 with lots of good looking, scantily clad women passing out free beef jerky samples next to the $1 beer stand. Does anybody know when and where this show will be taking place? (o;

Pick a gin mill on the south side of Chicago or Gary any night and you will be able to get all the above except no jerky in Chicago..
