Dear Smith and Wesson Forum I have a gun question. I have heard of new car smell. But is there such a thing as new gun smell? Any and all help in answering this would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely and Respectfully mg357 a proud member of the Smith and Wesson Fourm.

I think so. It's like a clean metallic smell, unenhanced by gunpowder and oil.

Well, around my place, there SORT of is, and it becomes noticable just about a few seconds after my wife discovers there IS a new gun, and starts inquiring how much I might have paid for it.

I think old gun smell is far better. My old 552 Remington has been fired and cleaned and oiled and waxed and sweated on so many times that it has a much more distinctive and pleasant smell than my new one.

This is real.

Even a gun NIB has been test fired at the factory before it ships out. I always love the smell after a good cleaning!

I personnally like the smell of Hoppes No 9 over that Channel No. 5!

I have a dog that is afraid of gunfire, thunder, sonic booms and such. I keep all of my weapons clean and oiled. I generally use LSA on my semi-auto .22 pistol. No matter where I have it on my person, that dog will sniff around and head for her dog house. I used to have to rack the slide to get her to stay home when I go hunting, but now she can smell it. I love the smell of LSA. My cars interior smells like it.
Peace,
gordon

Perhaps the most stupid question I've seen you post yet. Yes Nancy, there is a new gun smell, there is also a Santa
I'm off to see the lizard.......
