NHL STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS 2011
Welcome to the fun thread, where nobody knows what they are talking about.
Believe it or not, hopefully this will be the 4th year we have some fun at the S&W forum regarding good old hockey.
Last year we had 407 posts, including lots of humor.
All those that participated were nothing but great fans of hockey, whether their teams made it to the finals or not.
Mild digging here and there in good taste, but nothing nasty at all, just a great group of fans.
I consider myself an expert predicting the outcomes of each series, this year I will not make any predictions as I am batting .000
I hope some of you guys show up again and join the fun, otherwise this thread will go south fast.
Once again the Bruins and the Sharks had outstanding seasons, will they disappoint their fans as usual?
Will the Ducks and Canadians cause havoc once again in the West/East?
And I guess the Red Wing fans think the cup is theirs, better think twice.
Let's get ready and drop the puck at the S&W Forum.

Should be a fantastic playoff season. My top 4 picks are Boston, Philly, San Jose and Detroit. A crazy underdog would be the Ducks.

The local sports radio around here has said that if Boston does not make it to the conference finals this year, we need to replace the coach.
I'll take it one step at a time... Let's get past the Habs first

My Blue Jackets took a fall on the ice this season. They sucked big time, 33-34-18. They possibly made one good trade towards the end of the season for Upshall from Phoenix. The captain (Nash) had a bad year and we need a real NHL goalie. The arena is in the red and talks of the team shipping out have been heard. So, I'll sit back and enjoy this thread and the playoffs. I think I'll pull for Vancouver.

I'm pulling for the Pens in the east and the Yotes in the west. I'll be at the Coyotes - Red Wings Game 3 up in the nosebleed section.
Hoping to see seven game series and one-goal games all around.

The Bruins will take the Habs in 5. I think the B's have been taking it easy to prevent injury for the last couple of weeks. They wanted the Canadians all along. I think the Flyers have been doing the same thing. They have not been playing for anything for a while. They are the team to beat in the east.
Thanks for starting up this thread labworm. It's become a tradition.
GO Bruins

I have to go with one of my two favorites to make it in the East, either the Sabres or Rangers!!! My son is backing the Penquins again. I don't really care about any of the teams in the West, maybe the Blackhawks or Red Wings. Should be some good games.

labworm,
It looks like all the games will be covered on Versus and CBC. I would love to watch them all on NESN. Jack Edwards and Andy Brickly are the best in the business. They are fun to listen too.

I guess in your case, you will have to tune into Versus with the 3 hour difference, I believe they will cover the Bruins/Canadians Thurs and Sat.
The NESN gang are great to watch only if you are a Bruins fan
Nice to see you back and hopefully in good health.

I have the NHL package through Comcast so I watch almost all the games on NESN. It's like being back home.

Well....even without our two top goal scorers (Crosby and Malkin) we managed to get home ice. Sid should be back for the playoffs. I think the Pens will be a force to be reckoned with this year

My Screen Name Says It All ...
It wasn't that horrible, J.A. Second best finish in franchise history. We're this close. I'm betting my 10 years (now 11) as a season ticket holder on it.
Wings over 'Yotes 4-1.
Chicago puts the 'Nucks in their place - again. 4-2.
Preds make their first visit to the second round over Ducks 4-2.
Kings shock Sharks 4-2.
Penguins over The Bolts 4-3 (Could be an upset in this one).
Caps beat the Rags 4-0.
Boston over Les Habitants 4-2.
Philly over Buffalo 4-1.
In the meantime, the Red Wings still suck...

GO BOLTS!
Well it is the first time in a few years the Lightning get to play in the post season. I'm thinking that the BOLTS will get past the Pens even without the home ice.
When is the first game, anyway?

Pens 3 Tampa bay 0
tough game....scoreless through 2 periods. Pens score 2 in 18 seconds...add an empty netter, Fleury stands tall in goal. No Sid.... Playoff hockey at it's best. On to game two.....

The poor Igloo sits vacant, awaiting it's fate...probably will be demo'ed. Sad...I'm old enough to remember it's opening. I had the opportunity to attend a game about a week ago.....the new arena is awesome.

Thanks for posting the info about the Igloo, I forgot the Pens were moving into the new arena. The Pens played a pretty solid game tonight, caught pieces here and there.

GO BOLTS!
I was at work and didn't see the game. I guess I'm lucky?
Lightning had better tighten their skates and pull those socks up or they'll be golfing all too soon.
And yeah I know the Igloo is vacant, I just do not like the "naming rights" thing. Too much advertising at the rinks for me. On the ice, on the boards, on the score board, all around the stands, and even the name of the arena.
Is it really all needed?

There has been some concern as of late with the wing losing alot at the end of the season. I think once they were in the just held back to avoid injury's.
They sure turned it on last night, That was a fun game to watch.
Go Wings!!!!!

?Bruins? - Orr played for the Blackhawks (well - played might be a bit of an over statement )
Once a Hawk always a Hawk!
OTOH
The Blackhawks just didn't seem to *want it* as this season came to an end...
I was really lucky this year. My wife gave me the DirecTV NHL package for my birthday this year. Due to weather and my misreading the schedule I only missed Hawks games this year
While I'd REALLY love to see a repeat of The Cup for Chicago, well.......
Also. I hate seeing the Habs and Boston in the first round. One of the Original 6 WILL be eliminated right off the bat!
Also note that 5 of the 6 are in the playoffs this year - Too bad the Leafs didn't make it too.
Speaking of the O6 - Chicago's last game of the season was at home against Detroit. That was the ONLY game at the United Center against one of the Original 6 this season. Bad scheduling AFAIC.
PS - Thanks to labworm for the notification

The Blackhawks I'm afraid are done. Luongo is too much for a team who barely limped into the playoffs.
MON/BOS is looking like a good series. Hope it goes 7.
LET'S GO BUFFALO!

The way the Bruins played I hope it goes 5. There not going to win games with shots from the blue line against a golie like Price. They need to get in his face and jam the net. Let's hope things are different Saturday.
