Default You folks know the difference between a Type S bulb and an S11?

I have a display case with a light fixture that requires a 40 watt type S bulb. A few months ago I was able to find these, but now all I can find is a high intensity S11 bulb. If any of you folks are electrically oriented and can tell me if they are interchangable I would appreciate it muchly! I have been looking online and even through google all I can find is the S11's. They look the same but the packaging does say that they should be used in high intensity fixtures only so I'm a little lost! My concern is that they will generate more heat. I would think a 40 watt bulb would be a 40 watt bulb heat wise, but honestly I don't have a clue and the cabinet houses art work that I would not want to ruin.
Thanks in advance for any input...........

Default WATTS is WATTS - Temperature can be different

WATTS is WATTS but equal watts can yield different temperatures. For EQUAL WATTS a quartz halogen lamp will have a higher envelope temperature than found on tungsten glass lamps.

I would locate a commercial lighting supply and inquire with them. They should be able to advise and locate bulbs if needed.

Thanks Pete, I tried the local electrical supply store the contractors use and the only thing they could get are the S11's.

S11 only designates the shape and the size. S means it's a straight sided lamp and 11 is the diameter in eights of an inch (1-3/8").

Sounds like your going to be safe with the S11. Good information to know. You would think the bulb mfg. would put that information on the new bulbs for the consumer - ie... compatible with ZYX, or works with all ZYX housings. ??
