Anybody notice that MANY of Brownell's "wholesale prices" are actually more than local retail? I understand the cost of running a business (did it for 35 years) but I think they are getting a bit out of hand. Anybody take notice?

It costs a lot to stock the huge inventory that somebody like Brownells does. You can find what you need there as often as not, much more often than many places. Getting what I need right now is often worth a little extra to me.

Many of these on-line shops have a specialty niche market that they're secure in.

Brownell's as well as others are trying to have one stop convenience shopping now and not really marketing on having the "best" prices on the net.

Midway and Cabela's seldom have the best price, but their service is better than I can get at most local Mom & Pop shops.

I buy mostly parts and a few tools from Brownell's, but Midway and Cabela's send out the cops for a "welfare check" on me if I go more than a week or two without ordering from them.

Brownell's is a good place to do business, not the cheapest, but certainly one of the best. I have had good service and if by chance something is backordered, it usually shows up pretty quick.

Several big-box outdoor stores will order you parts for your firearm from Brownell's as well. The difference is that they buy it for 40% less, and mark it up 100% before they give it to you. If they install the parts for you, hoo boy!

an alternative is,get your 03 FFL...brownells,midway,etc will give you a VERY nice discount on what you order, send free catalogs and such as well...

You always have to check on Brownells prices. Recently I was looking at
shotgun jags on their site and they offered one type for $23 and
the exact same jag was listed for under $8 on Amazon.

It wasn't the type I was looking for, so I did end up
getting what I wanted at Brownells, for under $10.

Now, if they would just answer my email about some Leupold Scope Rings that they
charged me for, but didn't send with a previous order. It's been about a week
so I'm due to send another email. I'm sure that it was just a stock
pickers oversight, because they listed it on my invoice as not being
back-ordered and they currently list them as being in stock.

I would give them a call I sent them a email 2 weeks ago about some back ordered ammo just asking for a ETA. Week ago I sent them another email because I noticed they back ordered 2 cases of the ammo instead of one. I am still waiting for response for both email's. I think pretty much decided thought I just take both cases of ammo so not to worried. In your case thought I contact them directly there email reply's seem to be on a bit of a backlog.

That was the first thing that I tried, repeatedly. I didn't even get a busy signal
most of the time, it was almost as if their circuits were overloaded.

My plan it to try calling again, hoping things have
calmed down a bit, if not I'll email them again.

I'm sure they will take care of me, once they hear from me, that is. ;)

Several years ago when I had a FFL I bought a lot of things from Brownells and the dealer prices were great. I havent got a current catalog so I dont know the prices. jrm53

Price isn't everything. Brownell's is a nice place to do business with, carries a lot of good stuff that may be hard to find, has a nice catalog, and publishes some great books that have paid for themselves. I have no beef with anyone who looks for the best price on anything, but it's not the only way to do things.

FWIW, I once tried to buy some replacement screwdriver bits, and they informed that they were free (there are one or two to which this policy does not apply). I accepted, but ordered some extras , anyway. I didn't ask for this, THEY took the trouble to find out that they were replacements.

I agree Brownells might cost a tad more but the service more then makes up for it. I bet they are swamped right now I know at least one LGS orders from them for parts to fix things and uses there sight as a catalog to order things they don't carry in the shop.
