Actor Steve Forrest...R.I.P.
Steve Forrest was my all time favorite villain, or usually a villain, on Gunsmoke. He was in lots of things but that show stands out. He was 87 years old. R.I.P.

I remember the face, but not the name. He was one of the only characters on Gunsmoke to outdraw Matt. His brother was Dana Andrews.

And when he outdrew Matt Dillon in that episode I know you are referring to, he used a nickel Colt D.A. New Service sixgun, but we weren't supposed to notice that. BTW. It happened once before, Jay...

My first job was to be Dad's little remote control. Didn't pay much, except room & board. Good thing we didn't have 115 channels back then.

Remember Black and White.
I remember when their was only one or two channels and you could only watch it for a couple of hours in the afternoon and about three hours at night.
Do any of you remember the TV that you looked into a mirror to see the picture? The picture tube was mounted down in the cabinet.
A friend of mine's father bought a 27 inch and I thought I was at the drive in theater.

I not only remember it but I like to get old B&W shows and show my son. When he was younger (much younger) I almost had him believing that when I was his age the world WAS in black and white.

I used to watch TV in black and white. We got our first TV about 1953. I watched a lot of Gunsmoke. It was supposed to be a "realistic" western where Miss Kitty was a madam. They kept that toned down though. I heard Arvo Ojala was the one photographed pulling the Colt in the opening scene, but that could be wrong. I loved westerns in those days, but today it is hard for me to watch them because a lot of them are "preachy", that is they send a message that the white people did awful things.

XM82 is the only reason I pay for XM Radio. I love to road trip and love to listen to old time radio when I do. The good news is my 9yr old daughter loves it to. "Daddy can we listen to radio stories?"
I prefer the stories, not so much the variety/comedy shows.

Here is the entire High Chaparral episode with Steve Forrest and a young Kurt Russell called "The Guns Of Johnny Rondo". This episode has the corniest theme song written specifically for this character:
The High Chaparral - The Guns of Johnny Rondo - YouTube
Also. That WAS Arvo Ojala in the Gunsmoke intro. He was having lunch in costume at the studio and they asked him to do that short scene. He got paid but later went to the Screen Actors Guild and complained about them using his image every week without decent financial compensation. He got paid after that.
