Mercy, mercy I have a craving. None of the local restaurants carry them and my wife is not much of a country cook. I don't think I've had any since my Grandma used to make them back in the '50s. The canned ones are just dumplings with chicken juice.

Ron, Is there no Cracker Barrel in your area? That is where I get mine. Not that my wife can't fix them, she just doesn't. They are not like Grandma's but they are 1000 times better than the canned stuff.

THANK YOU. There is not one very close, but a weekend trip ain't out of the question.

Here in NC there is a cafeteria called K&W they make some good C&D.
I am craving some right now!

The ones at Cracker Barrel are fine. And while I don't know if they still offer them, the ones at Bob Evans used to be good.

Called Bob Evans, they said it's more like a very thick chicken noodle soup.

I second the opinions on Cracker Barrel. We have one and their C&D dinner is pretty darn good. Also, I think Cheddars, Longhorn Steak and Ale (not the national chain of the same name) as well as Longhorn restaurants all-have great C&D meals.

I can't do Cracker Barrel...even their coffee tastes like it was soaked in bacon fat.

But I do love me sum chickin-n-dumplins! Sadly, it's not on many menus.

When I can't find them home made a can of Sweet Sue chicken and dumplings will hold me until I can. There's a family owned restaurant in town that has them on the buffet every Wednesday. Hmmm... that's tomorrow.

Well, that's lousy news!

I wonder if they still offer a chicken pot pie?

A mom & pop joint is sounding more and more like where I need to go. One I used to go to, owned and staffed by a large black family, made magnificent chicken and dumplings--and most everything else they served. It's a long way from here, but...

There used to be a place in town called "Grandmaws Kitchen," they had the best home cooked chicken and dumplies I've ever had. There's a rumor going around that they're going to open in a larger location in one of the vacant buildings in town.

All ya needs is some bisquick. Heck...the recipe usta be on the box.

I eat just about anything and like most of what I eat.

However, I can't take chicken and dumplings... any kind... any way.

Maybe I'm weird.

Dang, it looks like I am the only LUCKY one here.

My daughter makes them a couple of times a year.........from scratch!!

Dumplings are the key to the dish..........however, if you don't have the "feel of the dough" you just can't get there!! Daughter has the "feel"...........

Drop by sometime...............call ahead!

Amen brother. The dough is the answer to good C&D, made with hot water and flour. Down here we don't call them dumplings though, we call them "Southern Slicks".:D
