Walker Texas Ranger's handgun
I was watching a bit of Walker Texas Ranger. I know in the early episodes he carried a M629 S&W. That was acceptable, I thought. But in the later episodes he is carrying a Beretta 9mm. The Rangers are a legendary Law Enforcement agency, and that just, to me, does not fit in with their image. When I envision a Texas Ranger I imagine him carrying an S&W1950 Target Model .44 Special with a 5" barrel. Or maybe a Triple Lock. Possibly a 5" M27. Or back farther, a Colt Single Action Army. If they were carrying a semi-auto it would have to be a 1911, but not a Beretta, and CERTAINLY not a 9mm.
Chuck Norris should have known better, but, please, don't tell him I said so.

Don't the Rangers now have a standard duty sidearm? I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere. Magazine article on the modern present day Rangers.
I've seen some carrying others , like 1911s and Colt SAAs escorting persons to/from court.

I've never watched a full episode of Walker: Texas Ranger. I know the real ones are issued SIG's in .357 SIG the same as DPS. Most I've met were carrying some form of M1911. But they can carry whatever they can qualify with. (They're Rangers...who's gonna tell them any different?)

I know a few Rangers and most of them preferred Colt 1911's.

Chuck Norris is so tough, he scared his 629 into becoming a Beretta 9mm.

I've met several Rangers, and they all carried 1911s.

Remember his 629 in "Lone Wolf McQuade?"
Along with the Dodge Ramcharger patrol vehicle with the blower and nitrous......with the issue of Combat Handguns on the dash.
And the Mac-10
Yeah, I always thought that was weird with the Beretta. Was it a 629 in the early episodes or a 686? Can't recall. I'm sure they had a retired ranger or two as technical advisors and I'm surprised they didn't put together a cool 1911 or wheel gun as the OP mentioned.
Since it came out in the early 90's, maybe the allure of the Beretta from Lethal Weapon was still going strong?

I wasn't much of a "Walker" fan, but I'd swear I saw Norris packing a 1911 at least a couple of times. Maybe with Ivorite grips?
But of course I'm senile.

Walker's 4" 629 is shot by a bad guy in one episode and the cylinder falls out. It's replaced with a 9mm Taurus adorned with black pearl grips inland with a Ranger star .... But Chuck never really needed a pistol!

The pistol
The pistol carries Chuck Norris for defense.

Forget his pistol. What about that stupid low-crowned black hat?
"White" or silver belly color with stockman crease is the modern tradition.
And those blue jeans! What was he, a country-Western wannabe?
Too bad his Ranger boss never insisted he use a razor blade on his face.

I did some digging on imfdb and here is what I found out. Chuck Norris used the following handguns on Walker Texas Ranger.
Beretta Inox S&W Model 27 S&W Model 629. btw I don't like Walker Texas Ranger far to much violence.

Hmmm...maybe it was another of the actors portraying Rangers I recall packing a 1911.
Or maybe I really am senile.
