I have about two dozen bottles of aftershave, some decades old. But the one I use every day is the one I always remember my Dad wearing...Aqua Velva. (It smells like a Man:cool:).

Anybody else have an old favorite with a special connection like that?

Other than the above mentioned Hoppes #9, of course.:D

Pinaud "Clubman" the cheap answer to Canoe and Old Spice which I happen to like.

Have some of that English Leather laying around which seemed to often appease the ladies.

For everyday wear it's either Hoppe's #9 or Ballistol, but when it's something special, I use Musgo Real from Portugal. Lightly scented after-shave balm, terrific for the skin, heals and 'cools' down the face in no time. Bugs don't seem to like it, but the neighbors poodle grabs my leg every chance it gets.

I just use isopropyl alcohol. Heals small razor cuts faster than anything else. Also makes a great pre shave for electric razors.

YOWCH! That's gotta hurt. ;)

I use Lectric Shave for a pre shave. Mostly alcohol but got some sort of oils that get left behind & sooth a little bit. They say it lubes the blades, too.

For after shave when I use a blade razor I'm in the old school Old Spice camp although I sometimes work in a dollop of English Leather or Stetson from some decades old Christmas presents. They stuff never goes bad. :D

I apply aftershave daily. Warm weather I use Royall Lyme, cool through cold weather I use Bay Rum.

Fred-

I used to use Royall Lime and like citrus-based scents.

But I use Mennen's Afta now, as it is better for the skin. My shaving cream also has aloe vera in it for a soothing effect and smooth shaves.

I haven't seen Royall Lyme in years. I used to buy it in upscale dept. stores. Never saw it in grocery or drug stores. It has a more intense tropical lime scent than Old Spice's Lime cologne did.

I had phases in my youth when I wore English Leather and Canoe. (No, not together!)

It is interesting to see which scents are mentioned in novels. What Dr. Hannibal Lecter said to the FBI agent in, "Red Dragon" about his cologne that came "in a bottle with a ship on it" was funny as well as deprecating. David Lindsey had his detective using some expensive cologne, but I forget which. And I once saw a negative reference to Brut. I need to get out Lindsey's, "Spiral" and look up which cologne the noveau-riche real estate flipper was wearing, along with his Rolex, worn loose so as to be exposed below his shirt cuff. He was a short-lived character, soon destroyed in a machine-gunning meant for a massively wealthy Mexican client. But Lindsey described him to perfection. I have seen guys who looked just like him. I'm sure that many use the same cologne.

I took Lecter's description of Old Spice to heart. It probably is looked down on by cologne snobs. I liked it, although I preferred their lime version.

I have asthma, and have to be careful which scents i wear. Some can trigger an attack.

Same for perfumes. Girls I dated usually liked either No. 5 or No. 19 from Chanel, as did my daughter.

Avon Black Suede when I have it. Very popular with ladies. I'm not, but it is. :D

Aqua Velva's fine for days I know I won't be leaving home.

I only shave my neck and from the cheekbones down to the upper edge of my beard.

I never use cologne. The Black Suede aftershave is enough fragrance, not excessive. People of either gender who apply cologne or perfume with a pressure sprayer drive me nuts and can actually trigger an asthma attack.

For the past 20 years, I have used Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel. It also works great as a lubricant prior to shaving.
