What are your thoughts on the ASPCA, I've been thinking of becoming a donor to help abused animals, but don't want to give to anti gun and hunting organizations. Are they a worthy cause or not..............

Largely on par with PETA in their gun and hunting sympathies. Both are well known for those views. Where've you been?!

Might be better to give to Trout Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, and other conservation organizations. I believe that Safari Club International also has conservation functions.

I would suggest donating both money and time to your local shelter, as they receive nothing from the ASPCA.

If you don't have money, time can really help out.

Also, many larger cities have a "spay, neuter and release" program for feral cats. I've participated in a cat catch program once years ago, and I'll admit that it was indeed rewarding and exhilerating.

Almost as fun as hunting, but the cats don't get harmed...well...if you don't call "getting fixed" being harmed. :D

Up here though, the coyotes take care of unattended cats, rats, mats, slats...well almost anything!

I prefer to support my local shelter and all breed rescues. You could get hands on if you wanted. They always need volunteers.

One thing all rescues and shelters are always short of is fosters. Many dogs are not saved because there is simply no place to put them. :(

We're not going to save all of them, unfortunately but we CAN make a difference.

The Starfish Story

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed
a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.

Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”

The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean.
The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”

“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said…
“I made a difference for that one.”

Due to my living situation ( live in a no pets apartment) getting a dog is not an option at this time. Helping dogs is also my main interest, so I'll check out some of the suggested organizations.

18,000 children a day die from starvation so I would suggest you try and help in that area.

Dogs don't usually take our aid, grow up to hate America and join jihad movements to try and kill us, nor do they sneak into our country in the dead of night and live off of our welfare system like parasitic leeches...

I'll stick to helping dogs, thanks.

we donate our time to careing for cats help feeding them at our cost . we olso help in other ways to get them to right place to have them fixed if they need to be. it is rewarding in many diffferent ways and enjoyable every cat has their own personality

There are many small local animal shelters who need help.We find them as we travel. Grey muzzle, they help older homeless dogs. Good bunch as far as I know.
The Grey Muzzle Organization - Home
Thanks for any help you can give to help troubled animals.

Be well

Thanks for the heads up about The Grey Muzzle Tom, I've just became a monthly donor....this old dog is glad to help other old dogs.

I knew "The Humane Society of the United States" was anti -gun anti-hunting. But I didn't know about the ASPCA. No more donations for them. Our local "Humane Society" makes a definite point of telling potential donors they have NO connection to "The Humane society of the U.S."
