Johnson Paste Wax

In a pinch, I've used it as an under-arm deodorant. It wasn't all that great.

Mike,

I know it has been some time now but in case you haven't found out, Hoppes #9 Bore Cleaner
is supposedly the ultimate under arm deodorant. If I remember correctly this was published by Dick Wolf
in one his Parting Shots article of over 50 years ago. Its never to late to try it.

I'll bet it burns if you shaved first
Old thread but I can see the bottom of my old can.
Like the old gal said "I us that schtuff on everything!".

I am still using a can of JPW that is at least 30 years old, use it on all my guns, and I have used it as a bullet lubricant and also as a case resizing lubricant. People love to shout about how wonderful Renaissance Wax is, but JPW is probably just as good and FAR less expensive. The very first time I used JPW on a gun was back in the late 1990s. I was shooting CAS using an old Winchester 97 pump 12 gauge. Wow, did that thing ever rust easily on a damp or drizzly day. JPW stopped it, would just apply some before I took it to the shoot if it looked like it was going to be a wet day. Oh, and JPW works on furniture too. I just went over an old grandfather clock case with it last week.

Only "probably just as good"?

Maybe it's "FAR less expensive" because it's nowhere near as good.

:D :p

Heck I guided waterfowl hunters in Maryland for over 35 years and hunted myself too. I put JPW on most of my blued guns twice a season. An old gunsmith told me to try it. Darn stuff worked pretty good. If you dunked a gun in the river though..you had to take it down and really clean it. Lot more salt in the water come winter. Never thought of using it in bullet lube

For machete blades? I'll try that.

I have an 18 inch Tramontina that I haven't oiled yet, so the wax should go on well.

I'll ask what my son uses but suspect it's Break-Free CLP, also my usual lube and preservative.

I've never seen the need to wax one.

If you mean a machete, plant juices are very corrosive and the blade has to be carefully scrubbed under running water and then oiled, or it'll get rust and become pitted.

Get blood on it, and the situation is even more serious, if not soon cleaned.

Anti-Lead lube for Barrels

I use 45:45:10 mix for
bullet tumble lube. It has 45% Lee Liquid Alox, 45% Johnson's
Paste Wax and 10% Mineral Spirits. You can also get it pre-made
Delux Liquid X-Lox~45-45-10 ~~ 32 oz - $15.00 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

Liquid Johnson Wax and Lee Alox (40-60 mix?) for Lead Free
Performance with Cast Boolits in Revolver/Rifle Barrels.

I no longer use that Ketchup Bottle. I have two Lee Bottles
now to make the mix. A very little goes a long ways, 5-6 drops
for 50 45Colt Boolits.

J&J is great stuff. Use it on all my handguns, the stocks of long guns. as well as the furniture around the house. I've also used it on car interiors.

It's a tough finish and water repellent. But I have seen items where it yellowed over time, and I don't want that on my blued gun finish. Renaissance Wax for gun finish.

I've had a can of Johnson's Paste Wax in the garage for thirty years. Still good.

What's a good solvent to remove all the oil from a gun's surface prior to waxing? Or do you even have to remove the oil?

7 oz jar of Renaissance Wax:

$13.29 Amazon

$29.95 Midway..........hmmm!

It is six bucks at the local grocery store
