In 2011 we have been victim of ID theft. Almost $3k gone. We got it back but it was a pain and took a long time.

Last night someone broke into one of our vehicles. Now, I can't 100% recall that it was locked. Usually we lock them and double check before we go to bed. Yesterday I can't recall. We also have a camera for the driveway, motion controlled. Yesterday I was so tired I forgot to turn it on.

Ain't that great? I'm the guy that says "make sure your doors are locked" and "get a security/video system" and now it happened to me. The one time I didn't turn it on

No sign of forced entry, glove compartment open, iPod that was in plain sight gone. The electronics in the mid console as well as the spare magazines were untouched.

Guess it was kids, scared to death that just grabbed the first thing they could see.

I'm mostly upset about myself that I forgot to turn the !@#$%^& camera on. But also about those thugs running around in the middle of the night trying to steal other peoples stuff.

We filed a report... that's about all we can do.

Im sorry for your theft and probs. Im still pissed because my early Nov 41 Walther P-38 is still missing--14 years and 8 months missing as of the 6th.

That sucks. Was it the UPS guy?

Sadly nope. It was believed by both the investigating officers as well as myself-that it was one of three maintenance men who worked at the Apt complex I lived in. I still firmly believe that is the case. I came home about 7 Pm one evening an found my front door ajar. I fully know I never left my front door ajar. In fact, I double and sometimes triple check my doors before I leave.

There's a lesson to be learned here.None of us are perfect.Everything can be replaced.

Had my house broken into years ago.Worked the afternoon shift and money was tight so I never kept any lights on while gone.No need to say more.

That early Nov 41 Walther--cannot be replaced. Only about 1,000 were made.

Some stuff cannot be replaced. And the boldness some people go through life with makes me upset. Yes, the iPod can be replaced. But the fact that someone crossed the line and went into my personal space, touched and stole my personal belongings and probably had fun doing so makes me sick.

Let's not all have a hissy fit.The IPod can be replaced.I wasn't talking about the Walther P-38 or anything else that wasn't mentioned in the original post.

In my case being violated was much worse than what was taken.

Sorry this happened to you, there is scum everywhere. About 6 years ago we we're having trouble with a "friend" of my daughter. She was jealous and was going south on drugs. I put up a crappy little IP camera that kept falling off line. We got egged to the max one night and the camera had failed.

About 2 weeks later, we were asleep and at 3:00AM we heard banging and looked out the window and 4-5 punks were beating my daughters car with bats. Gun in hand, I ran down stairs to see the *** wipes driving off. Going back in, I prayed that the *** camera was online...it was. Very bad quality video but it was enough to threaten the little girl with and she spilled the beans. Got her on a felony (over $1500 in damage) and the other 4 on conspiracy.

I done it too. I had just returned from burying my dad in wisconsin (lived in california). Put a lot of family guns in the house, too many for the safe.
Later came home for 5 minuets, LEFT MY KEYS IN THE TRUCK, and for some reason stayed home instead. Came out the next morning and the truck was gone! Never has showed up. That lead to a bigger burglary a couple mornings later. I had my custom model 60 hidden in the truck and that tipped them off I was a gun nut and I was watched. I no sooner left the house a morning or two later and the house got hit and many guns stolen! A JC Penneys credit card was in the truck. I followed up on that and found a girl that had just got out of jail (For burglary and gun heist) had run up over $4,000s with it! Later she went back with someone and cleaned me out. That one I couldnt prove but convinced myself who it was and they ran. She ended up getting effectivly just a couple months. Claimed someone gave her a ride in my truck and had to crack for just takeing the CC. Didnt know who gave her the ride of course. I got shut up and almost threw out of court when I stood up during her 30 second hearing to explain more to the judge. Soooo she got next to nothing and I got cleaned out of many family guns. I did I think, find out who her accomplice and he broke probation and ran. plus his family sold out and left town. One more reason why I love the court system in california.

Oh wow 3dots, sorry to hear this. At least you got them and justice was served. Kinda...

I seriously hate how people can screw you over and walk away almost free and clean...

Feel for JJEH. 19 months ago, my wife and I left for our grandson' s birthday party.Upon return, the back door had been jimmied. Besides a tablet and a laptop, my Ruger mkI was gone. My father gave that to me in 1971 for HS graduation. I ALWAYS lock my guns in the safe but, in a hurry, I left it on the cleaning bench. Neighbors heroin addicted daughter and her boy friend were found with the electronics but no Ruger. They have skipped two trial dates, are still free, police still hold my electronics and say they haven't forgotten me. What hurts the most is not locking my gun up. Eats at me every day. Sorry to carry on so, but I really do feel the pain all of you feel.

DaNang class of 72!

Our sheriff is always reminding people to lock their doors and hide everything in the vehicle. People go around at night between 2AM and 4AM and check all of the cars to see if they are unlocked. Some nights they find several cars unlocked with stuff in them to steal.

You should also remove your keys from your car when you get gas. There have been instances of car theft at a gas station with the keys in the ignition while the driver was putting in gas.

I am getting older so I check the doors more than once before I leave the house.

Thanks Rusty, I appreciate it. Your situation is even worse.

Joe, your Sheriff sure does a good job. And that's what's bothering me the most. We are always careful, always lock the door, get the keys at the gas pump, lock the house, guns in the safe, dirty laundry in the hamper, etc.

And now the one time I did not double check these crooks got us...

I live in a sedate suburb with a very low crime rate, but theft of visible valuables from cars is common. And if your car door is locked, the door window gets smashed.

The local police department regularly points this out, so I don't keep anything valuable in my car.

Every car on the street.......

One night every car on the street had its glove box rifled. The papers were all over the seat. They must have had a slim jim or something to open them because we ALWAYS lock our cars. I'm sure they were looking for guns. I don't feel that a car is sufficiently secure to keep a gun unless you are in it.
