Sorry to hear this! I really like this series.
And yes, I am anxious to know what happened at the end of last year.

Too bad...I enjoyed it. Must have been too expensive to produce OR some of the stars wanted big raises.

The only regular series I watch. Figures. and the only show where the lawman carries an interesting gun instead of a Glock or some other modern squirt gun lookin' thing.

Let's hope that TNT or some other cable network will pick it up.

I think the article stated that it was second only to Duck Dynasty in ratings for A&E.
Wonder if we'll ever find out which Connally was shot?

This is disappointing news. August has been a heckuva month all the way around. I wish I could get a do-over on this one!
Wife and I just started watching Longmire a couple of months ago by starting with the first season streamed on Netflix. We just finished season two on Netflix, and intend to wait until it's streamed so we can watch season 3. That there won't be a season four is really bad news.
I love the scenery of the show, and I find myself genuinely caring about the characters. Aside from the fact that in certain camera angles, Robert Taylor has an uncanny resemblance to George W. Bush (my wife disagrees), I think the show is great.
Most all the good shows get canned before their time; it's just a fact of life. Doesn't make it any easier to take, though, especially when considering what's left to watch.

Damn! That was a good watch. It was well written and well acted. So much better than the mindless drivel we are subjected to.

From what I have read, A&E wants more in house "non-scripted" programing. The dumped "The Glades" for the same reason. The producers of Longmire are shopping it around for a new network.

The show and the books....
The show and the books are different, so I'll just have to accept the story line of the books. It will be a few years until I notice it's gone, because we have to wait until it comes to netflix or something to watch it anyway.

Just another sacrifice to ratings. Longmire's Season 3 averages (0.6 in the 18-49 demo, 3.5 million viewers) were down vice Season 2 (0.8 demo, 3.7M). A&E only bought 10 episodes in S3 vice S2's 13... Likely hedging their investment. As others note, A&E is leaning on unscripted shows, and wants in-house productions (Longmire is produced by Warner Horizon) - both of which are better for their profit margins. Let's hope TNT picks up S4. Longmire is a better match for TNT's demos, and they've worked with Warner for decades. (Rizzioli & Isles, and the Dallas remake are both Warner series on TNT.)

Lets see. It says quote:
Longmire, A&E Network’s most-watched original drama series of all time, will be ending its run on the cable network after three seasons.
Now that makes no sense at all
Great show!
I like Glades also, they canned that!

I watched it for one season and liked it. I also watched Justified for one season. Literally the only 2 things I watched all year. We cut our dish but we can still buy a season and stream it through a WiFi connection. Might just have to do that when the weather turns.

Longmire:
Interesting setting.
Interesting characters.
Really bad screenwriting.
I watched a season-and-a-half on Netflix before I finally told my wife I'd rather sort brass.

Sigh, first Copper canceled; then Ripper Street canceled and now Longmire. Big Sigh, hopefully some other network will pick it up.

I watched season one and then read the books. That killed the series for me. They had a good thing going in season one but blew it after that. They missed out on the tone of the books. The TV show got way too dramatic lost the humor of the books. I won't miss it.

A&E is becoming the upscale version of True TV network. Can't keep a decent scripted drama, its viewers bring too much brain power the network and the advertisers know these viewers won't buy the garbage pushed in the commercials!

I tried to watch this series, but could not get into it even a little bit. Which is true of most crime drama series I've tried to watch. They are all so full of contrived situations that they are all but unbelievable. In every one of these shows it seems that a close friend or family member of one of the stars is somehow involved in a crime. Yet, no one is told to recuse themselves from the investigation. Nope, they just go ahead and investigate the crime where their close family member is either a victim or a suspect.
Again, not limited to this show, it seems like most of them do the same thing.

I have been watching season one on netflix. It is not nearly as good as the books, but I keep watching because I liked the books so much. The predictable plots and hammy acting are harder for my wife to tolerate because she doesn't know the books.

Bummer! We really enjoyed it here along with one of my co-workers. It was a nice change from all the fast paced-high tech-action packed stuff normally on. We'll be hoping it shows up elsewhere.

Neither.
It seems that the show appealed to the wrong demographic. They are looking for younger viewers - you know, the ones who spend their parents money on goofy stuff? Since us "over 50's" hang onto our money, we don't pay attention to the ads that sell the goofy stuff so those folks selling goofy stuff don't take out commercials on Longmire.
Ain't no money in catering to old folks...

We don't get A&E, but just started watching season 2 on Netflicks. It's one of my favorite shows. Hope Netflicks doesn't take too long before they pick up season 3!

Which means more idiotic "reality tv"
Most likely making fun of southerners
I don't know something like "Hillbilly TrailerPark Bigfoot Hunters Gone Wild!!"
Yeah, that will do it......

Ding, Ding, Ding, we have a winner I read another article that said that "non scripted" TV is cheap to make, and you can vomit them out (my words).

You don't need a team of writers, you don't need trained actors. People will trip over themselves to be on TV. So even if fewer people watch, the profit's higher.

It had to be a money issue.
Did you notice that the producers never could find the money to buy Vic a shirt that was not too small?
