Longmire

What always makes me laugh is the mayor giving Waltt a hard time. A western sheriff can arrest a mayor and all the mayor could do is whine. A chief of police can not arrest a sheriff with out a warrant from a district judge. Plus, the Northern Cheyenne reservation is in Montana not Wyoming.

Yeah, I always wondered why Andy and Barney gave the Mayberry Mayor the time of day. But I never tried to relate it to real life . . .

I like Longmire. Will now have to read the books.

On a side note about books vs. show, I actually found the Indian characters in the show, Mathias, Nighthorse, and Malachi, the most interesting and well-played, even though none of them appear in the books.

Lou Diamond Phillips is good, although the character of Henry Standing Bear is written quite differently for the show than in the books. But from what I’ve read, Craig Johnson is actually friends with Phillips, so he seems to be good with that.

Read the books, watched the show....

The show was good, I thought it went bad off the rails about the time 'Hector' started showing up. But I have to say, they pulled it together for a really good ending.

I liked the series but up here in Canada, episodes were sometimes a long time between and I'm sad to say, I never really finished watching it. Maybe down the road sometime. One thing I often say to my brother is, "it's entertainment, not a f#@king documentary!" We're both pretty knowledgeable about history and both have a military and law enforcement background and it's hard not to critique some of the silliness we see on television or in the movies. As a "fr'instance", ever notice in the series Seal Team that, for supposedly tier one operators, they spray around a hell of a lot of ammo to little effect?

And that's very sad, because Matt Bissonnette, Seal Team 6 operator, is a producer on the show. They need him out on the sets. They list him as Mark Owen, which was his pen name when he wrote "No Easy Day"

I got hooked on Longmire when it first came out on regular cable. I watched the first two seasons and then it disappeared to some channel I didn't get.
About a year ago I got Netflix. I watched the whole series from beginning to end. I liked it. :D
As for Vic, heck I fell in love with her when she was Starbuck. ;)

Reminds me of the one Mayor on Andy Griffith who ordered Andy around. Andy was an elected official, as was the Mayor, and I would have told him to pound sand and stuff it.:D

I really liked the series. Never really cared for Vic, and the last episode left me cold. Entertaining and enjoyable...one thing that stood out to me was how Walt never carried any extra ammo, amd how he would just casually tuck that holter in his belt like clipping on a cell phone....takes two hands for me to get my IWB holser in place WITHOUT the durned gun in it.

I enjoyed his books and writing since they came out. They have had an odd marketing with only being available early in the large paperback volume. When they started to become popular they went to hardback first. Johnson does great things with language and tells stories about real people you could imagine in a town that size.

I have all the books, read most of them two or three times. IMHO, the tv series was a poor adaptation.

My wife and I are watching it for the second time. (She has a major crush on Robert Taylor.) We binge watched it the first time, so this second time through we're doing one episode a night. Pretty good show, at least as good as most any other "cop" show I suppose, and certainly no more murders than Cabot Cove.

Walt's 1911 reminds me of mine

I had to dig out my Colt.....Walt's carry gun reminded me of one languishing in the safe. It got out, got wiped down, loaded up, and stuffed into a neat carved holster for a few days of carry.

Obviously, Walt's is a prop gun, but it looks like 1940's 1911a1. His holster is a Galco paddle :(

Mine is a for real Colt commercial 1911 made in 1919. Holster is by Bedell here in TX.

Looking around

I've watched seal team since it started, and I especially watched the season finale last night, I've come of the opinion that aside of sonny and his belt fed there isn't really much spray and pray, one or two red dot shots in a house clean situation and there is a fair amount of shooting when out fieldwise and engaging the enemy, and restrained shooting when in warehouse parking lot situations, the fellow playing fullmetal is x army, and the fellow playing the dog handler is an x seal, good show.

Now one show where there is a lot of errant gunfire is the andy griffith show, darn ole barney is always shooting his gun by accident.

Enjoy your holster I assume Bedel

Enjoy your holster. I assume Bedell Rogers is deceased as he was old the last time I saw him, 30 years ago or so.......
