I see that Tom Selleck is now hawking Reverse Mortgages. Too bad he has stooped that low to do this. I like him a lot, but he has lost my respect for this advertising.
I lost all respect for Fred Thompson when he did the same thing, and as for Henry Winckler, he's a moron as far as I'm concerned, although he doesn't shill for Reverse Mortgages anymore as far as I know.

The amount of money they most have agreed to pay him for those ads would probably give us all heart attacks! It must be astronomical!:(

The amount of money that actors, pro athletes make is often very little compared to the endorsements they get paid for. More than some 3rd world countries!

So what have you got against reverse mortgage?

My wife and I have no one to leave the house to when we pass, so what's wrong with a RM?

We get the $ now and YOU, if we leave it to you, have to pay it off or the house will be sold to pay it off.

Why should we care if you don't get as much of a freebie as you expected?

Bob

My favorite spokesperson was Bob Dole for Viagra.

I have mixed feelings about reverse mortgages. They are definitely a bad deal, but some people who really need cash income may have no other options - sort of like payday loans and car title loans (well, maybe not quite as bad as those). The real concern is for those people who don't fully understand what they are getting into, especially how much the front-end costs are. In any event, I certainly wouldn't take Tom Sellick's, Fred Thompson's or Henry Winkler's word for it.

Anyone who does Capitol One credit cards.

Less the clown in the suit, you have to like these guys...

I am not understanding why reverse mortgages are such a terrible thing to be involved with.

I would agree for most people its likely not the best option but i could see some scenarios where it might be the best option for that person. Especially people with no relatives, poor credit,no income, etc.

If you have no one to leave it to and don't want to spend all your savings trying to stay there the rest of your life?

I am not necessarily for them i just am not understanding the issue.

Well, even over the hill, not in demand for TV or movie, actors have to make a living. Commercials is one way to do that...and....NEWS FLASH...FILM AT 6:00.....many seniors, who have no children or grandchildren can benefit from a reverse mortgage it all depends on the circumstances and the value of the home.
