Are the Presidential Libraries federal property? We will be going by one and would like to stop and check it out. My concern is about leaving my conceal carry in the vehicle. I couldn't find much info on the WWW. Any information you have is appreciated. Thanks

Presidential library - Wikipedia

In the United States, the presidential library system is a nationwide network of 14 libraries administered by the Office of Presidential Libraries, which is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). These are repositories for preserving and making available the papers, records, collections and other historical materials of every President of the United States since Herbert Hoover (31st President, 1929-1933). In addition to the library services, museum exhibitions concerning the presidency are displayed.
Presidential libraries outside of NARA

The presidential library system is made up of thirteen presidential libraries operated by the NARA.[n 1] Libraries and museums have been established for earlier presidents, but they are not part of the NARA presidential library system, and are operated by private foundations, historical societies, or state governments, including the William McKinley, Rutherford Hayes, Calvin Coolidge, Abraham Lincoln and Woodrow Wilson libraries. For example, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is owned and operated by the state of Illinois.

doesn't sound like it is federal property

According to National Archives | the Presidential libraries are staffed by federal employers, same as the archives for various records. Listed is the Herbert Hoover Library in West Branch Iowa which is the closest one to me. Lists the other 13 presidential libraries and the various records archives around the country also. The times I have visited the HH library , the employees wear the green uniforms like National Park rangers, and the patrolling security cars are marked federal. The parking lots are distinctively signed as federal.

Just used Google Street View to look at the front doors of the Truman and Eisenhower Presidential Libraries. They both have proper window decals next to the front doors, posting them as no conceal carry allowed zones.

Not saying they all operate the same, but if your interested in any specific libraries, you might use Street View to check if it's posted.

I volunteered at one museum. There are two parts, NARA record-keeping, and museum. Although they are built with private funds, they are turned over to NARA for management.

At least where I was, it was hard to get through security with a big keyring. Guns and knives of any size or type were forbidden in the buildings.

The LBJ Library (and museum) is located in its own building on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin. I am reasonably certain it is not Federal property. I haven't been there in about 10 years, but at that time, there were no metal detectors, etc. at the entrance. No matter your feelings about LBJ, it is an interesting place to visit.

Thanks for your replies.
Hopefully there will be a parking lot close buy that is not attached to the library.
