"Curly Bill" Brocius
Powers Boothe has passed away. I really liked his work. I bought every character he was trying to sell.
I'm glad I have a lot of his films on DVD.
Godspeed "Bill".

Great actor.
Carried a 2.5" Mag-Na-Ported M629 in a great gun flick Extreme Prejudice.

He was a good actor. Always had supporting roles. I never knew his name but I do remember him in Red Dawn.
He played the commander of Cuban forces right?
Checked movie credits...he played the Air Force pilot who was shot down.
It's early.

Unforgettable as Cy Tolliver in "Deadwood." A villain's villain but with that certain je ne sais quois...
Died in his sleep, but too young still. Rest in peace sir.

It was five to one, I got four."

Great "character actor" in lots of films. I read somewhere that he and Jack Nicholson were great buddies ?

He was very good in the roles he played. It's a shame he went so young, only 68.

RIP, Mr. Booth.
As an actor, he could take sleaze to a new low every time he was on the screen.
Great, great, character actor.
PS - Married for 47 years. Survived by his wife and two children.

I genuinely hate to hear this. Damn. What a loss. And only sixty-eight years of age. Entirely too young to leave us.
I believe I liked him best as the more-than-slightly-psychopathic saloon owner Cy Tolliver in Deadwood. He brought a depth to that character way past what the script probably called for, and the director just let him run with it, I think.
I believe I'll break out my Deadwood DVDs this evening. Or maybe even watch Tombstone.
I hope he rests peacefully in eternity.

He's remembered here in New Mexico for the locally shot Red Dawn.
He was the shotdown F-15 Pilot who helped the Sway's Man and friends go after those Commies.
Patrick Swayze is also remembered here. He bought a ranch and became a part time resident.

wonder if he had sleep apnea or something, strange way to go in your sleep but probably the best way. He was a great character actor, and made others around him better in their respected roles.
All good actors and musicians are passing away left and right. With no clear replacements.

First Michael Parks and now Powers Boothe. Great character actors. Hope there is not a third soon. I remember Boothe most clearly playing Curly Bill in "Tombstone." The scene where he shot up the wedding party gave him credibility as a bad guy, and the gun-twirling scene in the bar with Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday (who twirled his tin cup in response) was a classic movie moment.
John
Edit: It was Michael Biehn, not Boothe, who did the gun-twirling thing. My boo-boo.

I believe that was Michael Biehn as Johnny Ringo who had the twirl-off with Holiday.

I remember his slithery portrayal of Jim Jones that won him an Emmy.

Saw it when it was first released in theaters. As you say, an interesting plot line, but overall a strange little film I thought. It actually made me think of Deliverance a little bit. A bunch of city boys basically ill equipped (mentally and physically) to deal with an environment and subculture way beyond anything they're familiar with. I don't think it did too well at the box office.

I was hoping someone would mention his turn as Jim Jones. Powers really creeped me out as a youngster after watching that movie. He was a fine character actor and will be missed.

What I always find funny about Curly Bill Brocius is his gang of cowboys were the only ones to have members who had crossed paths with Pat Garrett and Wyatt Earp.
Members of the Cowboys at the time of the Earp Vendetta was Pony Diehl but I do not remember him being referenced in the Tombstone movie. Also present in the gang at the time reportedly when Virgil was ambushed was no other than Dave Rudabaugh. The above all rode with the Jesse Evans gang and along side Billy the Kid as some time or another. Pony Diehl was reported present when the creek ambush occurred which killed Curly Bill, history kind of forgets these people and they killed more people than the previous members combined. Weird how they were not mentioned in the Tombstone movie?
