Another Tragedy.

Went to the TV station

Saw their video report and several interviews with folks who knew one or more of the victims.

Truly heartbreaking to watch. Hope of course the murderer is caught soon and he harms no one else.

We should be cautious and alert no matter where we are.

My condolences, Charlie, to you and the families of the victims. We truly have animals walking amongst us. I have to wonder if they have souls.
When I walk into a convenience store and the clerk is not immediately visible, the hair on my neck stands up. About 5 seconds later I'm moving towards the door if the clerk hasn't appeared.

I am very sorry for your loss Charlie. Convenience stores can be dangerous and I am always careful when stopping at one.

Strange you mention that. That exact thing happened to me pretty late one evening in a “stop & rob” somewhere near Camarillo, California. I went in to ask directions (pre-gps navigator days) while my friend, who was driving, waited outside in the car. No one in sight - and dead quiet.

After a few seconds of that, I was a bit leery to turn my back to walk out and gradually shuffled backwards toward the door while looking around. Just as I knew I would have to turn around to open the door, the clerk appeared from a back room at the rear of the store. In situations like that one’s mind tends to race. In total maybe fifteen LONG seconds had passed, but it seemed like an hour. :o

We had just arrived at LAX that evening, and of course we had no weapons.

In my patrol area I attempted to get the store clerks to keep the windows clear but they would put up all kinds of advertisement thus blocking the view of the interiors of the store from the outside. a few followed my advice and when I drove though the lot they would flash a hand signal that every thing was 10-4.

Like Jimmy I too used to stop in at commercial business and tell them to PLEASE keep their windows adjacent to the cash registers / counters free of vision blocking literature/ signs / merchandise racks. It fell on deaf ears. At the few that obliged, it didn’t take long to revert to the old way. The old adage … “ you can’t protect people from themselves”.

Now that’s my brand of LE.

R.I.P., Jason.

Way back when I was 14 (late 1950s) the little store across the street got robbed and the owner just about killed. The thief about 6'2'' 250 pushed the owner, a 5' 100# 65YO woman over to the cash register. He took all the money and as he left he pushed her a few feet farther thought the open door down the basement stairs.

She got banged up quite well and soon sold the store. She never was the same. A year later she died.

My last critical incident in the NMSP started with a murderer and friends robbing a stop-and-steal in Deming, NM. Not much good happens after 10 PM. Anywhere.

Clerks were fine eventually; the murderer's friends went to NM prison for armed robbery, and murderer Chris Nelson went back to Minnesota for killing/dismemberment of a guy and tossing parts into the Crow Wing River.

That sucks. I’m so sorry Charlie. It’s like a gut punch when it’s that close to home. R.I.P. Jason…my condolences to family and friends. A senseless tragedy.

It is terrible to read of such senseless murders.

Robbery may be despicable, but it’s pretty easy to understand. Killing people, after you’ve already gotten what you wanted, is just totally incomprehensible to me.

Gang-banger mentality 1.01. If you are seen, leave no witnesses if possible. If you are defied in any way, somebody is getting shot. I'm not rationalizing this, just telling you how it "works" for these people.
