What’s the Saddest Song You Ever Heard?

Three pages in and no one has mentioned Black Sabbath, Lonely is the word. It's the one of the last lines in the song.

Taps.............................

My nephew was in the navy home on leave at a southern naval base. He was late getting back to the ship on a motorcycle. A truck pulled out infront of him. He died. At the funeral I held it together until the gun salute and the taps started playing. I lost it. The ship sent their van with his shipmates. I gave them a $100 bill so they could buy a round of drinks on me. A military funeral is very sad.

There's a version where his orchestra plays Amazing Grace after the Guard comes in playing Scotland the Brave

The man and his orchestra is outstanding! ;) I would love to see them in a live concert sometime!

Here’s another one of my favorites,,,,,
The song played by the band as the Titanic went down......

I love that Willie Nelson and I forget his name-duo-To All the Girls ive Loved Before--which to me is a sad song.....

Many of these sad songs can really hit a nerve.

Here's one I don't think was already mentioned.
Kingston Trio's Tom Dooley.

What about the theme song from The Alamo ?
I guess it´s The Green Leaves of Summer and if I recall correctly composed by Victor Young.
Regards, Ray

Gary Jules arrangement of Tears for Fears song Mad World (Donnie Darko soundtrack). Maybe depressing is more accurate.

"Hide my head, I want to drown my sorrow;
no tomorrow, no tomorrow.
And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad;
the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had.
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take;
when people run in circles it's a very very, mad world."
