18 years ago, this internet stuff was relatively new and I was looking around for interesting sites. I was spending a lot of time at Shooters. It covered a lot of area and had a pretty good group of people.

I was referred to this site by a member named SmithNut. I started spending time here. I was amazed at his knowledge and his collection. I joined the SWCA and attended my first annual symposium. I have been to numerous symposiums since, but SmithNut remained elusive. I missed him by a day at Boise and he attended a meeting in the NW that I did not.

Last week in Dallas, I was in the bar Friday evening and noticed a member I did not know who looked a great deal like a childhood friend. I noticed him again Saturday morning and commented on the resemblance. He looked at my name badge and said "Max, I am Rob". It was unbelievable we were finally meeting.

I owe a great deal to Rob and I hope I properly thanked him. I have learned so much here, and met great people who are now friends. All because he took the time to guide a newcomer to a place of interest. Thanks again Rob.

I have a photo of us I am trying to post and will keep trying.

I always looked forward to his comments to posts on the forum. And it seems like he had one of every gun that Smith produced. All of those pictures spurred me on the collection trail. His gun safe must be as big as Fort Knox.

Here's a photo of the two of them.

Truly a pleasure

Max,

Finally meeting you (after the near miss in Boise) was an absolute highlight of the Dallas Symposium! These meetings give us an opportunity to see loads of nice hardware, learn some stuff and make new memories, and this meeting truly offered all the above.

It's too bad my stunt double wasn't available for the picture above, he's taller and much better looking... :>).

Looking forward to seeing you again next year in Tulsa .....
