Biscuits and Gravy
One of my all-time favorites for breakfast. Breakfast sausage browned up in an iron skillet with a little bacon grease added, milk and a little corn starch to thicken it up a tad bit. A couple of hot biscuits broken up into bite sized pieces and pour the gravy over it all. Give it a minute for the gravy to soak into the biscuit pieces and have at it.....along with a cup of hot joe.
Any other home recipes out there?

I have paid $3 for a granola bar rather than eat the FREE biscuits and gravy. My second option was foraging for berries. Actually eating the biscuits and gravy was saved for when I'd lost all hope and just wanted to end it all. Not a fan, to put it mildly.

Growin' up , Pops used to call them , Cowboy Breakfast...
IMO, it is an undefeated breakfast meal .... so good , so easy to make and growing up in a home that watched every nickel and dime that went out of the house, a very inexpensive meal

Basic Training 1974 in Missouri….. I was like what the hell is that stuff ?? Never tried it then. Now it is a very occasional treat - usually when the wife orders it at a diner or Cracker Barrel.

There is a diner about 6 miles from where I sit that opens at 0500 and has the most wonderful biscuts and gravy. About 12 years ago I worked 300 feet away and started having breakfast there, once a week, then twice a week, then 4 times a week. I swelled about 50 pounds!
I got a job elsewhere and went on a diet. I also avoid that stretch of road early in the AM!

Little diner down the street from my office where the gravy is a food group unto itself. Absolutely out of this world good. I limit myself to once every couple of weeks and only then if I'm going to get a good workout that day. It will literally carry you all day be it on biscuits, hash browns or chicken fried steak.

Biscuits & Gravy
Biscuits & Gravy, was once an old time favorite. I’ve tried to improve the nutritious quality of my breakfasts, and have been alternating between eating, one scrambled egg, covered with Bob Evans, sausage gravy, and one slice of Kroger 9grain toast, one morning and the next, a ‘Bullseye’, made from one egg, and covered with Bob Evans sausage gravy, the next morning. Just a slight improvement.

Use 1 pound roll of regular sausage broken in small pieces, using Cold frying pan heat sausage with lid on pan, stirring to prevent burning. Make sure there is plenty of grease in pan. Once sausage is browned use sifter to slowly add flour, stirring to adsorb grease until no more grease. Add milk slowly stirring to thicken gravy. Once you have a thin gravy cut heat off leaving pan covered until gravy thickens. Put heat back on low and add milk to thin gravy. Enjoy.

Biscuits and gravy are delicious, but not something you should eat every day. Everything in moderation.
For those in Texas and the few other states with Whataburger; they make surprisingly good biscuits and gravy.

LOL, thanks. Never knew what the heck that stuff was made from.
Now that I know, I'm still doubtful of ever trying any, but at least the mystery is solved.

As a little girl my daughter loved SOS.
We used to have nearly once a week. Yeah, we were broke.
Now days biscuits and gravy is a rare treat. Love it.

Actually, in this instance, Portland is quite nice. As b&g aren't the staple breakfast food, you only occasionally get assaulted with them. Unlike other parts of the country where you get kicked in the mouth with them every day.

Not a fan of sausage gravy. Now good old cream gravy or pepper gravy as it is called around here is just fine on biscuits. Would still rather have 2 or 3 eggs over easy on top of some hash browns with a plate of flapjacks smothered in butter and syrup on the side.

Many years ago I was a breakfast cook at a Hotel I would make 4 gallons of sausage gravy every morning and we would run out by 9 o’clock. To the usual ingredients I would add a bit of sage and some chicken soup base.

I have a little diner near me, well diner maybe a bit of an over statement.
Even saying it's a greasy spoon is to kind. More like a greasy spoon without all the
"Fancy Stuff". But the biscuits and gravy is the best back home goodness around.

Bob Evans used to have excellent sausage gravy. As mentioned in many posts, can’t eat it but few times a year unless young and really working. I usually fix it when I visit son or daughter. Then there’s the salsa I make once in a while………

Bacon grease? Heck, I do bacon gravy! Fry the bacon to a crisp, remove to a plate and crush it to bits, then make your gravy in the cast iron skillet used to fry the bacon. I have it on good medical authority that condensed milk will completely nullify any and all cholesterol content, as long as you simmer your gravy slowly and thoroughly.
Sausage can be incorporated if desired. Good bacon recognizes no competing flavors or elements at all. Diversity is a good thing at the breakfast table!
Biscuits and fried taters are required, as are fried eggs served on top of the heap o' breakfast. Good strong coffee is also obligatory. A side glass of orange juice adds a touch of class to what might otherwise be considered an uncivilized morning meal.
Not every day, of course. But always an option when the mood dictates comfort on a full belly with the possibility of a mid-morning nap between tugs on the fishing pole.
Oh, and don't forget to have a slice of fruit. This allows you to tell the truth about what you are eating for breakfast when necessary.

Grew up with biscuits and gravy almost every morning. Cold cereal wasn’t a thing.
When I went to the academy they were served twice a week. They were the only main course those mornings unless you could beg a piece of toast. I ate my fill, but a lot of the guys from urban departments turned their nose up at them. You could always watch them hit the vending machines at the 10:00 break.

Growing up it was a staple. Lot’s of kids and not a lot of money . I really didn’t mind Army chow because it was the same as what I grew up eating. I thought everyone ate home canned everything.

There's a place down the road that makes a great B&R...but an even better chicken fried steak covered in gravy. So I really only get it at home, and it's pretty rare.

The 3rd week of May I visited my sister and BIL in Georgia. My sister can cook. When asked what would you like for breakfast I was quick to reply B&G. Managed to get it 2 mornings.YUM

Yeah, I know what you mean! This is a bad thread to read if you have a case of the munchies. Thank goodness I just had a bowl of ice cream! And, BTW, not exactly the munchies that I used to get;
but I believe there's a breakfast of sausage & gravy in my future!
Also, when I was a kid, Mom made SOS on the rare occasion. To me THAT was a treat! I didn't know you could get sick of something so good like the enlisted men in the war movies on TV!

Any other home recipes out there?

There is only one small town restaurant near me that has biscuits and gravy . I order it every time I'm there. I keep asking if they have grits but sadly they never do.

In my 32 years in the Navy never touched red or white SOS or grits.
B & G don't look any better either......

That Bob Evans sausage gravy is like a Big Mac. It tastes great while I'm eating it, then right after I wish I never did. Gotta use those Grande bisquits, too!
