Missed spin class today. Intended to go, we had our gym bags loaded but Lisa's appointment with an ophthalmologists started a bit late.
If we had gone to spin afterwards, we would've gotten there in time for class to end.
Anyway, Lisa has cataracts in both eyes but the right eye is worse than the left.
With her glasses on, she's legally blind in her right eye with 20/200 and her left eye is 20/60. They had her take her glasses off, cover her left eye and read the largest line on the eye chart. She just laughed, it was all just a blur. The doctor said he can fix it with an operation to remove the cataracts and implant a corrective lens.
I'm teasing her, telling her that she's blind in one eye and can't see out of the other.
I told her that I'm gonna get her a white stick.
We should be able to make spin class on Thursday, I'll drive.

Cataract surgery these days is almost a non-event. A Versed IV drip, a great laser light show, cheap sunglasses and you're out the door.

Had both mine done. I now have "secondary cataracts" so I get to do it again.

That Versed is awesome stuff.👍👀
Her doctor has 40 years experience and has done 'bout 29,000 cataract surgeries. He says it'll take him about half an hour per eye. She's gonna get her right eye done first.

Just had mine done, actual surgery time was very quick. If you can, go for the upgrade lenses so you have both distance and close vision. Very happy with mine.

I went this route. Pricey but worth it. Course where you lives really determines the cost. I paid almost $6K for the operation. My friend in another state paid $3.6K. I think it almost pays to shop around. Doctor told me in another year or two they'll be doing it in the doctors office instead of the hospital.

Me too! Successfully. I can drive without glasses. BUT I lost my super power close vision. Trade offs.

Still need glasses for astigmatism, might have been corrected, might not.

Who just got a new prescription for trifocals.

But the difference in my Vision was improved beyond belief
The difference cannot be adequately described, it can only be experienced...I could see colors I had forgotten existed with a clarity I couldn't even remember...And it was evident the same day of the surgery, after my eyes began to adjust to the new light getting through...I only wish I could have afforded the corrective lens implant also......Ben

I have had both eyes done, about the easiest and best out come medical procedure there is.

Sounds like your wife is in good hands. All will be well!

The secondary cataract surgery is even less of an event than the original. Guess how I know.

I had coke bottle glasses till I had lasik in 1999. Best money I ever spend. I had cataract surgery in both eyes about 4 years ago and secondary surgery in one about a year after. My right is is set at a 20/20 and the left 20/25. Close stuff is a bit blurry with right eye and there is a bit of blur with left at distance. I see close or far best with both eyes open. I am 70, can read the paper, drive as i see well far out. I shoot handguns left eye dominant. Scoped rifles right eyed.

I had both eyes done 7-8 years ago. Big improvement, especially
in my shootin' eye. One thing to consider: you will probably
have debris floating around in your eye after the procedure. I
had one in my right eye. The doctor called it " a honker". :D

Last month I had a YAG procedure to remove it. It's a green
laser used to zap the floater. Procedure lasted 2 minutes, no
pain. Results are so-so.

My 93 yr old mom had her cataract surgery a couple of months ago and a week or so ago she got her corrective eyeglasses for her nearsightedness. She says she is amazed at how well she can see and how sharp and colorful images are now. Then 5 minutes later she is complaining about how she can't see anything. When I ask her if she's wearing her glasses she says "Not right now". I don't even bother to tell her to put them on any more.
